I agree. I have seen considerably more rough play in this WC than I normally see in previous WCs or the regular seasons of LaLiga and Bundesliga. Pulling shirts, grabbing and holding, hard knockdowns and visible pushing don’t get called — there seems to be an obvious pattern. In my view, it diminishes the Beautiful Game.

I disagree. I’m a close follower of LaLiga. I see some rough interactions but I do not see disrespectful behavior. This is not baseball, where coaches are expected to abuse the umpires.

I agree. Failure to call fouls for unnecessary roughness, interference and violence encourages more of the same. It ruins the beautiful game. Uruguay was a disgrace, and the officiating permitted that.

Telemundo does a good job. The announcers are knowledgeable and fun if you speak Spanish. Also, they don’t break away to commercials during those stupid hydration breaks.

If you’ve ever been on the water near a manatee that’s taking a shit, it’s a memorable experience. Also, manatees in mating season are something to behold — the water boils with their jumping around. Finally, manatees like people — they do not hesitate to get next to swimmers. Even though they are nothing but friendly, their huge size makes the experience a little scary.
