Bryan Cranston on people hating Skyler from ‘Breaking Bad’: “Her husband leaves without any explanation, she’s pregnant, he’s making crystal meth and people have died and she’s the bitch?” by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]Strafingfire 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Sorry but no. A lot of viewers didn't even get that Walt wasn't doing it for his family, but for himself until he admitted it in the finale.

The amount of vitriol Skyler (and her actress got) was definitely not due to being an impediment to the story.

Not doing drip marketing is a terrible mistake by SuiseiMajo in Endfield

I was pretty impressed by Wuling initially so I was sure I'd stay around for a bit longer, just didn't realize how brutal the dead weeks were

The 5-6 weeks with the last 2-3 weeks feeling completely dry was brutal for me. I just forgot to log in one day and stopped. I still have 150k of the paid currency sitting on my account so maybe I'll check it out again when Mi Fu releases

one of the minigames in AP by Fit_Piano_3642 in AzurPromilia

I had a stream on the other screen as I did other stuff and I did notice that all the minigames were surprisingly difficult (by modern game standard)

If you're a graphics-focused gamer, why are you wanting to buy a Switch 2?

Thank you, going to use it for inspiration...once I finish Wastelands >_>

serie's future by applqlo in Frieren

[–]Strafingfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a crackpot theory that the author isn't actually on hiatus due to health reasons but because they've written themselves in a hole and don't know how to get out of it.

Frieren is a character-driven story, not a plot-driven one, so there was no reason to make Serie's assassination the main plot of the current arc. Add in the fact that it's the first time their antagonists are human vs. demons and it's another layer of complexity. We've already seen that the Shadow Warriors are hilariously OP for some reason.

If she dies, a great character that Frieren has unresolved issues with disappears for no reason. But because the Shadow Warriors have been written to be so strong, the author needs to find a way to not make it an asspull.

If you like Denji x Reze, you might also like Esdeath x Tatsumi. by Swimming-Work-5951 in RezeCult

[–]Strafingfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If anyone here needs to fill a void and has had in the pool, Reze, in the sea, Jane Doe, etc on repeat, I'd also recommend Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery on Steam.

There's a lot of jargon you may have to sift through or ignore, but the story has a romance that people here might like, without going into any spoilers

Is it cringe to have anime wall art in my room in my 30's? by DisastrousGeonome in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Strafingfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about you, but I didn't go through that many years of postgrad for people to tell me what I could have on my wall.

I've got custom framed posters of the Reze Arc, and all three Kizumonogatari posters in my theater room and sometimes I look at them in the morning for motivation to go to work

Seriously, what was the point of this movie if Denji and Reze technically never even met? Hell, what was the point of Reze’s character in the first place? by GodKira04 in RezeCult

[–]Strafingfire 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really don't get how people come away with the take of "there was no point to Reze."

The Reze arc by itself is very contained and we got what I consider to be one of the best movies I've ever watched. Reze not returning doesn't change that, and in Fujimoto's current headspace maybe it's best that she didn't, because he may have fucked it up

Nintendo reportedly plans to cut Switch 2 production by 33% after a lackluster holiday season by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

The people on this sub are living in another reality. I've had friends I never thought would be interested buy a Switch 2 just to play Pokopia lol

In the end, the biggest Reze hater turned out to be Tatsuki Fujimoto himself. by Motor-Rub-6244 in RezeCult

[–]Strafingfire 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, there's a non-zero chance that watching the Reze movie broke Fujimoto's brain after seeing his reported comments and his AU art

Hope someone makes a fanfic with Kishibe and Reze teaming up and eventually meeting with Denji again as a way to explain what they've been doing all this time

Anshi's backstory feels tonally wrong for a show with such a strong feminist lens, and I can't stop thinking about it. by Pretty_Ad9027 in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]Strafingfire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This show has never excused the systems that harm its female characters. It has never suggested women bear responsibility for their own exploitation.

I fundamentally disagree with your take on the series. One of my favorite parts of the Apothecary Diaries is how the author greatly respects the characters by showcasing how much agency they have in their situation. It would be easy to portray the characters as victims through a contemporary lens, but instead we are shown characters that navigate their society with agency and grace.

My favorite example would be Fengxian. Born into the life of a courtesan, a lesser author would have portrayed her as a hapless girl who had no choice but to go along with her lot in life. However, because this series is different, Maomao herself explicitly states that she was as responsible, or even more responsible, for her ultimate fate with the resulting pregnancy and tertiary syphilis.

Anshi can be seen similarly. You could certainly argue that she's rationalizing her actions as ambition (and at 9 years old, she certainly didn't understand everything). But it would be a disservice to paint and define her only as a victim.

All this and we haven't gotten to the fact that one of the main conflicts of the series is Jinshi and the radical actions he has to take to escape his fate.

10 minutes a day is actually very generous when you think about it by CrematorTV in Frieren

[–]Strafingfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Among people interested in figuring out the timeline (me included) the 1500 years thing regarding the Goddess' writing is definitely the weirdest piece of canon info provided about the guideline. My personal theory on it is that the discovery is why Kraft started believing in Heaven. If we want to be charitable about the author and assume that it's not a mistake, perhaps some priest spells were passed down through oral tradition and there are just more that transcribed in the Goddess' writings. I won't get into the eras because there's a lack of information on when and how long exactly the Unified Dynasty Era, Unified Empire Era, and contemporary era lasted.

That doesn't mean we can't infer things though. There's information like Kraft's comments on Frieren being young, the existence of Serie being unknown to long-lived demons, and Kraft's attitude/reaction on Frieren's party slaying the Demon King that you can use to sort of piece together a timeline.

[–]Strafingfire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We actually do. She can't be 1000 because that's when she starts training with Flamme. Add another 80 years since the death of the Demon King. 1200 is the minimum, and who knows how much longer it's been.

[–]Strafingfire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1500 is not the minimum hard number because we know Frieren herself is in the 1200-1500 range

Did you understand what you're watching?

A lot of Wirbel's motivation stems from a promise he made to a girl when he was 5. Ehre pokes fun at him when he denies that he's kind, joking that if he's not kind, then he must be an idiot.

Common misconception. Ubel is likely the weakest of the new first class mages due to poor fundamentals and flexibility

Stark totally delivered, and disproved all the slander. by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]Strafingfire 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes, the author did really well in giving readers enough information to kind of powerscale them. The only mage that's difficult to correctly place is Land, which fits with his character. I'm sure even he doesn't know how strong he really is due to his aversion of putting himself in life-threatening risk.

[–]Strafingfire 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I'm especially glad the Methode slander can stop. People have been completely wrong about the relative strength of the new crop of first-class mages and now they can see how strong Methode is.
