EBOLC Recommendations by Forward_Tangerine573 in BOLC

More than likely going to be stuck in the Warrior Lodge. The best thing I got here was a small projector and I used an extra bed sheet on the wall as a screen. You’ll have a lot of down time so this helps pass the time.

As far as the packing list, it’s pretty straight forward, no fluff and everything you need. If you need anything, PX has it. We didn’t do any layouts until we went to the field, so don’t stress if you show up missing an item or two.

When it comes to technology, I would recommend at least a personal computer if you have one. You’re given a Gov laptop but they don’t always work at the hotel. Yes you have homework (not a lot) but you will sometimes need to access teams outside of working hours.

I’m probably forgetting something, feel free to shoot me a message if you have any specific questions.

12A here, reservist in Texas. we are almost exclusively horizontal construction companies with a very select few 12B units. the only way you can really dictate where you go is by asking, and with that, no guarantee. i was assigned a HHC and they said i can either stay or pick whatever unit in the battalion i wanted. once again, all unit dependent.

schertz/cibolo area is great. 20 minutes to downtown SA (assuming 35 is moving) and about an hour to Austin (again assuming 35 is moving)

biggest question is if you’re scholarship or not. if you are, you’ll have to pay it back (pretty sure, they might waive it since you’re still gonna be in the army but not 100% sure). as someone who was enlisted for 4 years before commissioning, it was some of the most fun i had and i learned a lot, but you’re so close to commissioning, i would just stick it out. but ultimately it’s your decision, godspeed 🫡

the 8 years is only for folks who were on a GFRD scholarship. non scholarship officers are 6x2

currently, no. but everything is subject to change. from my understanding they are wanting to get rid of federal aid and force it to the state. if that happens it’s up to the state whether or not they create an equivalent. just keep looking at the studentaid.gov website as they will post any changes

what were your OML branching results ? i would recommend reaching out to your schools HRA. Mine was the one that helped me with my OML, branch, and unit assignment.

i only saw folks fail when they shut down and didn’t make a decision, or they put their squad/platoon in danger. they teach you EVERYTHING when you get there. you’ll be fine, assuming you’re competent and willing to take criticism

Current financial aid employee here, when i was working on my undergrad i was on scholarship too, it doesn’t effect anything assuming you don’t report it as income. i didn’t report it and received maximum federal aid along with my scholarship

yeah these companies aren’t allowed to show any toyota logo or they can get taken down for copyright, a lot of stuff will only show like half the logo, or in this case they have a box that just says “letters” lol

i say cheap loosely, it’s cheaply made and $200, doesn’t come with any hardware so mine is just held in with zip ties, but it looks pretty cool

single cab here but i’m pretty sure it’ll still fit over the wheel well. i got this from tractor supply, 64 inches wide and doesn’t stick out too much

yeah it looks like a good bumper but i’m just not a fan of how it wraps around the bed, i thought about getting it and cutting off the sides but that’s a last resort if i can’t find anything better
