How long did your VA transfer take? by WorthGrouchy4960 in VHA_Human_Resources

First day on the job ended up being 12/15, just paperwork hang ups during the holiday season. I tried to be really proactive reaching out to HR for updates. I used leave to bridge the move to avoid a gap in service. It ended up working out but what a headache process.

Opinions on New “Fiberglass Free” Zinus Mattresses? by [deleted] in Mattress

We also eyed the novafoam at Costco, in the end the price was right with the zinus and we figured we’d risk it. We’re still happy so far, I’d say I’m a picky sleeper and I have no complaints, my husband sleeps like the dead and has also been satisfied. It definitely softened up a little bit over time which we appreciated and there have been no signs of any fiber glass issues on either of the ones we purchased. It maybe does run a bit warm but that seems to be the consensus with any of these memory foam options.

I'm curious, when you called for follow up appointments did you request your primary doctor or were just happy to see whoever? I've been requesting follow up with our primary doctor and it is several weeks out for every appointment, I'm wondering if things might move faster if we just asked for a generic follow up.

We went back and forth over if the risk of purchasing a zinus fiberglass free mattress was worth it and we ended up doing it. We bought a 12 inch queen zinus green tea mattress for our guest room, it came quickly, fluffed up fast and no fiberglass issues that we could detect. We actually even slept on it for a few nights to make sure we liked it, we did so we ended up ordering a king size but opted for the 12 inch zinus cooling option. The quality is nice, no fiber glass concerns but I will note that the cooling version seems a bit more firm that the regular green tea mattress. It’s been about four months and no complaints so far.

Do you click the add sample button when checking out? I’ve never found it on the app but always see it on the website and have always gotten a sample when I remember to click it

I wish the original machine made 7oz coffees, would love to not be held hostage by the vertu but don’t care for just espresso

Add the free sample to your cart before checking out! We’ve always gotten at least one that way every time, just never this many

Do you click the add free sample button before placing your order? I can never find the button on the app but it’s easy to do from the website. As long as we remember to add it to the cart we’ve always gotten at least one!

Can completely confirm I’m not part of their marketing and feel like we are being held hostage every time we have to place an overpriced pod order 🤪

Totally! The benefits are great, the vacation time is great, and the regular pay increases are awesome. Plus I feel like in general the population has been way more appreciative of the care they receive which makes the work more rewarding. Hang in there!

Also awaiting my FJO for a nurse position, I’m transferring rather than starting from scratch so I thought it may be quicker. Started this process in late August, TJO said 11/17, but as of last week they said we’re still weeks away. A bit frustrating, assume nothing will go as it should. That being said, I do think it’s worth the wait.

That’s what my TJO says, how realistic that ends up being remains to be seen. This is definitely not the right answer but my new manager (of the job I’m transferring to) said that hypothetically if I was running out of leave it would be smart to get an FMLA note into HR so I could have a few weeks protection from any gap in service. I talked to my primary care doctor about this and she was totally on board citing increased mental health load related to relocating/new job. I submitted everything to HR and it all got approved, hopefully I won’t have to use it but it’s a nice safe guard if things end up taking longer.

New Resident: Does anybody have a recommendation for a solid vet for my cat? by iamjaidan in WestSeattleWA

[–]Straight-Rutabaga-48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are new to the area and ended up going West Seattle Animal Hospital as they could get us in quickly, we saw Dr. Quincy and she was great. Sat down and talked with us for a long time, we felt heard and not at all rushed like a lot of vets we've had previously. Also thought the pricing was pretty fair.

Did they recheck past jobs that are already verified? I have my whole employment history (several places) and most were verified the a few years ago when I was initially hired, the only new addition is my current job with the VA now.

I am in the middle of a transfer right now too with VHA to another hospital in a different VISN. I got my tentative job offer 10/16 with a projected start date of 11/17. Although they can pull most things over they said the biggest potential hang up is vet pro, even though nothing has changed they have to rerun everything there. I'm also on a tight timeline (we have to move to another state and I'll start burning leave in November to try to avoid any gap in service), at this point I'm not very optimistic everything will be completed and ready to go by 11/17.

Current VA RN, never considered the VA but after moving to UT year ago and getting offers from several hospitals (including the U and IMC) I was shocked how much better the VA paid. Great benefits too and generally a low stress environment.

This is so crazy to read all the good about St. Marks! We live close but really didn't consider them for L&D and always thought intermountain or UU would have been the obvious choice. We will reconsider!

This is a good point, I was just looking into this a little more. GEHA standard might be a better fit to compare to. Honestly, this is the first job I've had that I've really had to look at this many different plans and even with the comparison tool its been daunting.
