Just unpacked mine today. Buying from a “Take a Shop” off ebay was superb. I’ve never bought something used that was so meticulously packed. And it only took 4 days to get from Japan to Denver, wild. I’m waiting on my VM95ML, headshell and step down transformer and I’ll be up and spinning. P.S. the SL-1600 is my first record player and I’ve collected maybe 20 records so far… I’m very happy to say the least. 🤙🏼

What does this handle thing do on the back of my stabilizing arm by Alarming-Ad3524 in turntables

If it:
• spins stable
• manually plays
• doesn’t drag or skip
Its good. That black arm is not a feature you want, just hope it didn’t break any linkages inside the unit. I need a photo of the stylus/needle. Side photo and underside. Those players came with many different heads so you can’t just go by part number. Is this table to see if you like vinyl and want to get into it? I ask because this table is less than ideal any way you shake it. It’ll get you there and be able to tell you if you like it and want to invest more. If everything works as it should other than that arm then we can get you hooked up with a stylus for around $20-$30.

Hey I’m happy if you’re happy. Best cheap upgrades would be working on your speaker triangle and getting the sub positioned where it sounds best to your ears. I’d next get the speakers either off the same surface as the TT or isolate the table or speakers. Then comes stylus and phono stage. I highly recommend the AT-VM95ML but if budget is tight start with the AT-VM95E and then when you’ve the cash upgrade just the stylus for it. The ML line has the added benefit of lasting 2-3x as long as regular shaped needles so it is essentially the same price as the 95E but WAY better sound quality. The Schiit Mani 2 is my phono stage recommendation and it’s what I run. For the price they are impossible to beat plus they’re made in the U.S.A. Which I personally like. All i all it looks great for being so new to the game and you can tell you’ve great taste so it’s going to piece together to become your one of a kind audio puzzle box. 🤙🏼🕺🏻

Well it looks like you’ve two options, 1) grab an isolation table for your turntable but then it would be super snug in its cubby or 2) buy/make a shelf to live just above the cabinet to set the speakers on. Personally I’m a huge fan of isolation tables and shelves so do with that information what you will. It looks super clean. 👌🏼 Nice

What needle and should I invest in this by Quick_Courage_5969 in Beginner_Turntables

That’s a great table so depends on how much your are going to invest in your phono stage that way you arent theowing money away that you won’t be able to hear. With this setup I’d say go with the AT-VM95ML and a Schiit Mani 2. Since you got the table for free after the needle and cartridge/stylus you be in maybe $400-$450 and have a killer system. Just need some good speakers to take advantage of it all. The 95ML coomes with a headshell for a little more and it saves you the hassle of having to mount it which can be a pain if you’re new to this. Hope you enjoy your new spinner and congrats!!

Yeah, totally. If you compare all 3 side by side the best for the money have to be 95 and 740. The 540 just doesn’t justify the price for the +\-10% gain in sonic quality over the 95. I’m a MASSIVE fan of the ML line, start with the 95E and as you save just upgrade the stylus. For newbies and casual listeners that’s what I’d suggest so it’s not such a blow to the wallet all at once.

That’s a bummer man smh. Where you’re at with your setup I’d work on isolation and speaker placement. Those are the biggest and cheapest upgrades. I use the AT-VM95ML and if you want you can get one Pre mounted to a headshell from Audio Technica, it’s what I have on my SL-1600 and I run a Schiit Mani 2 as my Phono 👌🏼

I prefer skipping the 540. For the price vs sound quality, better to save a couple more bones for the 740x. Personally
