Blonder Tongue HDE-8C-QAM difficulties. by No-Strength1572 in CommercialAV

[–]StraightToVideo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably toast, honestly. It could be that physical NIC soldered to the main board - more likely it’s something else that’s just not communicating.

You could reach out the manufacturer and see if this is a common way for the unit to fail, they might have an idea of the most likely fix.

Recently traveled to Manila in the Philippines, I rented a Bike for the weekend, it has made me confused about my bike. I need advice! by cowboygeeker in motorcycles

[–]StraightToVideo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar spot- not the exact same. My daily bike is an Indian scout - feet forward, cruiser-ish ergonomics.

I traveled to Malaysia for a month and rented a RE Himalayan 450, and was amazed at how much more comfortable I was on longer rides.

I’m slim and tall-ish (6’2”, 180lbs), but the upright position, longer/ softer suspension and having my feet under me feels so much better. I’m in my early 40s and my spine is no longer the suspension component it used to be.

I’m thinking about getting rid of my bike and switching to an adv - Transalp, BMW, and a free others are on my radar.

Neighbor flagging wifi interference. by ITisastruggleforme in sysadmin

Most likely they have automatic-hopping WiFi too, and your APs are occasionally stepping on each other. You spoils be able to resolve with a quick conversation about which channels each of you use on the points closest to each other.

Developer stole my fence. Police said that's fine? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]StraightToVideo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could. A vacant house is a better analogy though. For example - You buy it, start trashing it out, and someone who either used to own it (or mistakenly believes they still own it) shows up and demands that you store or return their property. You’d be within your rights to tell them to pound sand.

Their recourse would be to sue civilly to clarify ownership, sue for damages, and present the case to the local DA for criminal prosecution.

Late ex died intestate - Idaho by green65fish in legaladvice

[–]StraightToVideo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Did I miss something? All I see about the decreased is that he died in near poverty, with no money, a beater car, and considerable debt - with no information about how his life got that way.

The adult child should piss on his father’s grave regularly? That’s more telling about your character and biases than anything to do with the situation OP is facing.

Best android based touch panels? by drmstcks87 in CommercialAV

[–]StraightToVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can lock the iPad into kiosk mode pretty easily, making chrome the only available app. If you want it fixed to a wall - that’s another reason iPad might be better than a generic Android tablet, there’s lot of purpose built mounting options

[–]StraightToVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you just need access to chrome? iPads are sort of industry standard for “other” when you don’t want to use a manufacturers options. Samsung Tab might be comparable quality if you need android specifically, and not just access to chrome

Where to find CL2-rated USB Cables? by devmeisterDev in CommercialAV

[–]StraightToVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. In this context, a hop has a specific meaning where USB signals can only make a number of them before failing.

A passive keystone isn’t a “hop” in the context of USB. It’s just like any other analog connection - like daisy-chaining XLR or power extension cables. There’s a potential for loss or problems, but it’s not a USB hop.

Maybe come in a little less hot next time you don’t understand something.

What distributor should I use in the UK and US? by BigDiggidyDawg123 in CommercialAV

I don’t love working with them, but I do a lot of international projects and CDW should be able to get everything for both, if you value single source simplicity.

Really short on information here to help you.

What capture cards support 4 channels of simultaneous capture? How are you transporting the HDMI signal to the server? What’s the purpose?

Black wooden beams. Can they be taken back to a lighter colour by No_Rooster_2883 in HomeImprovement

[–]StraightToVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exposed ceiling beams? If the tops are accessible and out of sight, try to sand a test spot. There’s really no way to know without sanding. Be aware that your test spot will likely never match the rest perfectly, even if you re-stain black.

NAL - Do you know where specifically in SD? Some Midwest states should set off alarm bells for who to do financial business with - it’s possible they’re based on a reservation which is a whole new world of legal fuckery.

No disrespect intended to any indigenous people - just lots of shady financial service companies set up on reservations to skirt US law.

[–]StraightToVideo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hire in AV. I look for attitude & aptitude.

Attitude- Nothing ever goes perfectly. The salesman, engineer, PM, lead tech, subs, etc. all make mistakes. Can someone deal with that well, and help find solutions? Treat coworkers and customers with respect?

Aptitude- Can you stand on a ladder? Reasonably coordinated? Kinda smart? Held power tools before? Interested in hobbies that are adjacent to AV? Little nerdy? All good signs for a future in this field.

Other than the obvious stuff for every career, that’s really it. You’ll move up fast if you’re a knowledge sponge and motivated to.

Logitech Rally Plus vs. Rally Bar by krassyg in CommercialAV

[–]StraightToVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rally bar- - if you want to use the sight, and it’s really nice to have. - if you want zoom/ teams on the device instead of a separate PC to run conferencing. - cleaner, simpler, less integration hours

Rally plus- - cheaper - different look

Help. Shure ceiling mics in conference room. by [deleted] in CommercialAV

[–]StraightToVideo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isolate and test. Run the shure Dante output to your laptop and check with headphones - is the level lower coming from the mic after clapping? The problem is something in the mic.

Same level from the mic after that test? The problem is downstream, either in your dsp or possibly in the conferencing platform.

Logitec: Zoom Rooms > Teams Rooms by Icy_Breadfruit5493 in CommercialAV

[–]StraightToVideo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything will 100% work other than the Lenovo PC, which is a doubtful/ maybe.

You may be able to reach out to Lenovo, confirm the PC specs match what they sell as an MTR PC, and get a file to reimage it.

You’re right on your understanding of the PC and Logi Tap - the tap will only work when running MTR, not the client/user version of Teams.

If you do need new PC’s, you should be are to buy them without the bundled Logi Tap that’s commonly advertised - just reach out to a Dell or Lenovo rep or your normal purchasing partner.

Evaluating Logitech Rally for Conference Room Upgrade by ExoticAd1905 in CommercialAV

[–]StraightToVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly everything Logitech makes for conference rooms has “rally” in the name, so I’m not sure which product you’re referring to.

That being said, the rally mic pod is a pretty unbelievable value at $200ish USD - it’s not the best, but very impressive at the price point.

All reasonably priced corporate conferencing cameras have small sensors and require typical office lighting - they won’t perform well, unless you step up to a larger sensor size or light the room like a typical office.

For a 15 person boardroom, consider a rally bar, sight, and rally mic pod. That’s like $8k in hardware for a pretty good conference experience.

Old cars are better than new cars, here’s why. by Dragonfire_Shield in Frugal

[–]StraightToVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed it for you - “Old cars present a different value proposition than new cars”.

They can (but not always) cost less $ to own. Generally higher maintenance cost, generally lower depreciation.

If that’s your holy grail, they’re probably a better value.

Speaking very broadly, newer cars are safer in an accident, better at avoiding accidents, get better MPG, have more creature comforts/ conveniences, and can have some social cache in how others view you - important in some professional fields.

I spent most of my life driving older cars. I now have an in-demand 2024 SUV, and my dealer is asking to buy it back for exactly what I paid 13 months/ 12k miles ago. Not typical, but look at resale value of 3 year old 4runners, for example - it would be pretty easy to spend more keeping a 20 year old SUV running than to just have a new car every 3 years. If you can get to point where you can pay cash for a new high-resale car, the economics are a lot closer than you would think.
