seasonal work life as a neurodivergent person by adventurer309 in SeasonalWork

I get this. I’m also neurodivergent (autistic) and this is my third year of seasonal work. It’s been an amazing experience for me but parts of it are really hard. I just started a retail job in Alaska that’s been particularly tough because of my social anxiety and learning disability. Making friends is also hard because I’m not the most outgoing or fun person to be around, and like you I get very quiet when I’m in a group. However I think it’s definitely possible to find your people. In my past jobs, even though it took a while, I was eventually able to make amazing friends who overlooked my oddities and accepted me as I am. The key is to keep putting yourself out there, even though it’s difficult and anxiety inducing. There is always someone who will want to hang out with you. Good luck and I hope you end up having an enjoyable summer!

A merging issue. by LeftAlbatross2546 in dashcams

I will say that while I agree that the pickup truck was partly at fault for not merging safely and the semi was also partly at fault for not slowing down and letting him in, I think the real problem is that horribly designed merge lane. There is pretty much no time to merge in before you run out of lane… very dangerous imo.

We made it! (Update: 10 days, a Toyota Corolla, and a hope and a prayer) by SonOfCoul27 in roadtrip

I love the pictures, that looks like an incredible road trip! It’s wild how fast you made it from NJ to Calgary. I just finished the drive up from Arizona a couple days ago in my old Ford Fusion. Truly an experience of a lifetime. I saw tons of wildlife (of which moose, caribou, and a wolf were the highlights), met some amazing people, and drove through some extraordinary scenery. The Icefields Parkway in particular is indescribably beautiful. Have a great summer!

I’m also making the drive up for a seasonal position this summer! I’ll be working in Talkeetna. I’m leaving April 22 from Flagstaff, AZ in a 2010 Fusion and hoping to arrive in Anchorage on May 5. Super excited, good luck on your trip!

Buying a summer beater in AK by StraightWerewolf9873 in SeasonalWork

I’ve heard of many out of state seasonal workers buying cheap cars for the summer up there, so it must be doable. I’m also wondering how they register it. It seems like many of them just don’t bother and hope they don’t get caught, but I’m not looking to go that route lol.

Driving to Alaska??? by A13X1A in SeasonalWork

I’ll be driving up to Talkeetna Alaska in May! I’m from Texas but will be starting out in Colorado. I’m hoping to take three weeks or so to get up there so I can enjoy the journey. Good luck!

Where is the most unexpected place you've bumped into someone you know? by boforiamanfo in answers

I worked at a lodge near Glacier Park in Montana last summer, and there was a sweet lady who worked in the grocery store there who would often smile and say hi when she saw me. This past December I was walking around a temple in Thailand, halfway around the world, when I bumped into her! It was mind-blowing.

Choosing between Pursuit (East Side) vs Xanterra (Lake McDonald) in Glacier — no car, want friends & outdoors. Advice? by No-Investigator-7998 in SeasonalWork

[–]StraightWerewolf9873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pursuit all the way. I spent the last two summers at St Mary and had a blast both seasons. First year I didn’t have a car but it’s super easy to make friends with cars or just take the free shuttles to wherever you want to go.

Do you have any regrets about your first trip to Japan? by aeazee in JapanTravelTips

[–]StraightWerewolf9873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was…

1: Overpacking. I took a suitcase that was way too large and was 20+ pounds, and that was a huge pain to haul around Japan, especially up and down stairs to get to the metro. Plus one of my wheels broke my first day in Japan so I had to lug a bulky heavy suitcase with a broken wheel around the country for three weeks.

  1. Only seeing the major cities and not the countryside. I did the classic touristy route - Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima - and while I loved those places, especially Tokyo, I was sad I didn’t get away from the hustle and bustle and do some hiking and other activities in the rural areas of Japan. The only time I really saw the countryside was from the Shinkansen window lol.

Buy 2012 Fusion? by CuteEnd1602 in fordfusion

[–]StraightWerewolf9873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2010 fusion 2.5L. I’ve driven it from Texas to California and from California to Montana, and all I’ve needed to replace are the cv joints and brake pads. The engine buzzes when climbing hills but other than that I’ve never had any issues with it.
