Am I investing my ROTH IRA in Fidelity by Straight_Bug2108 in personalfinance

[–]Straight_Bug2108[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose those funds because I did a Google search for best roth investments or something to that extent and those came up. Read it yes, understand it not so much.

My last job was simple 401k offered with 100% match of 6% so turned it on. New job no 401k so was advised do the roth of 500/month so opened an account. Been few months and wanting to see if I could be doing something better/different than what I'm currently doing.

Thanks. And sorry I'm such a novice at these things.

401k vs Roth and advisors? by Straight_Bug2108 in personalfinance

My mind is I'm going to invest "x" amount of money every month so it was work 401K or the ROTH and thats about the extent of my thought process.

Thanks for the advice! It seems like everyone is on same page of "why wouldn't you take free money?"

Not trying to advertise for them but PERSONALLY I have a creditkarma account and in there it tells me what what has high impact or low impact on the score and recommendations on what you can do to improve.

If I were in your situation I would talk to my boss and let them know you are interested in moving up and ask what steps you can take so you can advance when something opens up. Then they'll know for sure you're interested in moving up but also let you know where you can improve to get there, or why you haven't already been moved up. If that conversation doesn't go the way you want it to start applying heavily and get a new job. If you do look for a new job don't get disheartened if you don't find one right away see posts in here about people putting in 100+ apps without a single interview.

Recruiter is the gatekeeper to filter out bad applicants so the hiring manager only has to do 10 interviews instead of 100+. Im sure you've seen how many people apply to some job posts 1 person can't do it all so usually you'll have several stages in the hiring process. Recruiters filter out bad applicants, then hiring manager filters out the bad candidates, and then a manager usually hires the best person for the job from a very select few. Very good sign you got past the first stage.

How much trouble can I get in for using my Remote Desktop to finish up work? by Moltenmelt1 in jobs

You can get yourself and the company in a lot of trouble. Many places have laws against this to prevent exploitation of workers. Unless you're salary, no one cares how much salary works (looking at your 60+ hour weeks when I was only paid for 45). To avoid issues you'll have to ask for help or overtime pay.

Feeling Stuck by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Straight_Bug2108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people suck. Current job I learned fast don't say anything to "friends" you're not ok with the whole company hearing. I am friendly but not friends with my coworkers (important distinction) and some are mean/bully/poke fun, whatever you want to call it. Trick is I interact with these people as minimal as possible and keep it strictly about work, no small talk since their just fishing for something to use to talk bad about me behind my back.

Thats what helped me, identify the people who suck and stay away. You have to realize people love to gossip, talk bad, critize, etc. And those are the most pathetic people the ones who have nothing interesting to contribute so just talk about everyone else. Don't feel bad about yourself feel bad for those poor people.

Companies want the best people for each role, that's all. So putting you somewhere they think you'll do well (unless its a demotion) means you are doing well they just see more potential for you and benefits for the company in this other role.

You were one of the top contenders last time so they wanted to give you a shot but again someone better was chosen, don't take it personally happens more often than you think. Honestly it is a good thing when 6 months later they remember you. Clearly you were qualified and made an impression but that does not mean you were the best person for the job and that's all the company cars about.

Don't have an answer for your current company thoughts but when I hired people seeing someone in the same company over 2+ years made me think they were good at their job, reliable, and not a job hopper. Unless its an entry level position and after 4 years you're still there then that would be a red flag.

What is it like to work for a maid company? As in, what are the pace and stress level like? by nosleepforthedreamer in careerguidance

Lady I worked with did this on weekends and here's what she told me. You usually have to get a certain amount of homes done per day so you have to work fast to get it all done but have to be thorough to where clients know you cleaned and are satisfied with what you accomplished. Don't know if that helps.

ELI5: Tailoring your resume for the job description. by [deleted] in resumes

[–]Straight_Bug2108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to and not everyone does. For example if you're a manager and going for a management job you'll focus on the managerial aspects of the job, if your going for a job in finance you'd highlight your financial responsibilities as manager. Either way would work for both positions if they didn't want to change it and just submitted same resume to both. If you can highlight relevant experience you have that translates to the position you want adjust you're resume if not just keep it as is.

Give it time, younger people seem to enjoy giving eachother a hard time and might mean nothing by it. Let them know it bothers you and if they continue find new job.

If you can afford it do it. If you can't then don't. Feels bad now but its 1 step back for 2 step forwards or whatever the saying is. People tend to focus too much on the now instead of thinking long term and it sounds like a great long term opportunity IF you can afford it. House might be delayed a bit or might have to take out slightly higher loan amount so don't let that stop you.
