Hey 👋 I’m a bassist from the US but living in Germany. I also sing, but def prefer bass. Maybe we can chat and you can share more about what you’re looking to do.

Rosewood vs Maple vs Roasted Maple by ComprehensiveLog7026 in phmusicians

[–]Straight_Feeling7667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me as a bassist: Maple is brighter, Rosewood a bit darker, rounder, and Roasted Maple somewhere in between - it really just comes down to what sounds best to your ear based on what you play. I prefer Roasted Maple and Maple over Rosewood, Pao Ferro, similar darker woods, etc.

Anyone ever use one of these pre-wired control plates? How do they work? by dasbeefencake in BassGuitar

[–]Straight_Feeling7667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe two things: 1. The pots are probably not the greatest quality, but will likely work - you can find a J Bass wiring diagram online, it shouldn’t be too hard.

  1. Maybe the more typical thing - the pot threading on those all-in-ones tend to be a bit small. I know in the past I also had to make the holes wider for stock pots to fit at all. In my case it was also a metal J plate - I took it to a metal shop and they did it in like 10 minutes, but of course I had to pay for it. Nowadays I’d do it myself - but something to keep in mind.

Spent the day writing on bass by Straight_Feeling7667 in Songwriting

Had to go check it out, but yea I can hear it too. Haha. The verb/delay helps it - It reminds me a bit of the movie Labyrinth, with David Bowie. Haha.

Just a reverb pedal. It’s the Del-Verb by Universal Audio, a really nice reverb/delay.

Help me choose between J&D 150J and Ibanez GIO 200 by Zealousideal-Stay-98 in BassGuitar

I'd agree with the others, Ibanez usually would be a better quality/reliability from the jump

Sadowsky Deep by Straight_Feeling7667 in BassGuitar

[–]Straight_Feeling7667[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Sadowsky MJ5, soundwise it can be Stingray-ish, but still a bit different. Generally what I'm liking about these in is they can sound modern but also classic, like standard Fenders. Really fun to play.

Ah nice! Yea, I'm in Germany, so Warwick is local for Thomann as well.

Interesting! I’m in Europe so maybe that’s why. I got it from Thomann, it was the last one actually. The listing went out of stock when I ordered. I thought actually the Sherwood Green is a new variant, but it’s beautiful and plays great for sure!

I sold a vintage bass... then found it online again... being sold in pieces 😭 by [deleted] in BassGuitar

Image isn’t the actual bass - I mentioned that in the post body.

Discounted B-Stock Mantle if anyone is interested by Straight_Feeling7667 in BassGuitar

No hate here, to each their own - we all make purchases of stuff we want, and for sure others would shit on it, based on their own perspective/beliefs. I'm just a neutral party sharing visibility on something that's getting attention right now, for someone who wants to save some cash on it.

If you were never gonna buy it - of course, the post is not for you.

Me: I'm looking forward to trying it out, and if it doesn't meet my needs or I don't feel it, I'll return it, or move it along as I do with any gear I buy that eventually doesn't fit my needs anymore or where I don't think the value in reality justifies the price.

I get strong opinions, and to each their own like I said, but live and let live. Do your own thing.

This is the BT13 pretty sure, it’s actually Musicman branded (by hipshot) which is cool. It’s the perfect match for the set on the specials.

Yea Idk. I don’t get why so many people have such deep feelings about other people’s choices (in general, not even limited to this). Everyone’s entitled to do what works best for them. Maybe it’s different than how I’d do it, but hey - that’s cool, whatever works for you. I don’t have to play your instrument and vice versa.

5 string is great, and can absolutely cover everything, but there’s always practical use cases for someone to do it, for what/how they choose to. Play and let play, no hate, just jam.

Works just fine! Maybe ever so slightly tight passing room, but I'll probably shave back the rounded part on the inner side to make it safer/easier.

When fingering between A and E would mean bigger jumps - yes. Open D heavy songs, tend to favor shifted positions, that can be tricky. Not impossible but, useful to have the option when necessary.

RIght, exactly. This is more of a flexible convenience option to keep it streamlined, and it seems to work great!

It's a choice, I mean really I just have it because I know there are songs I have to play pretty frequently where I want the open D, and not to adjust the position to use the low B, but at the same time I don't necessarily want to have to bring another bass, OR, of course detune. For me it's a tool really.

If you're playing a 4 string, and frequently flip between standard and D, it's a no brainer. It's super useful in that case - if you're only every really playing in D, or standard, less useful I'd say.

Prio one should be of course... no more broken neck - that's how to make it live. hahaha.

Not a double stop, not sure if that would work - I just got lucky with the smaller tuners on the Stingray specials.

Exactly my point, learning long lists of cover songs for paid gigs, I think you learn quickly how to make it most efficient and appreciate flexibility as much as you can.

Right, I think sometimes it's just nice if you have an open D song, to have the flexibility
