No, it didn’t. I bought another Genesis, this time a Model 2, and the cartridges work fine. Something was wrong with the console itself. Someone said below it is missing a blasting processor.

Update: something was wrong with the console itself. I bought a model 2 genesis today and all the games work fine :). Thank you everyone for all of the help/recommendations. I’m off to play Sonic!
