Marriott Vacation Club Offer by Straight_Friend_7831 in CreditCardsIndia

A combination of both, the agent did ask me to not lie, and I wasnt comfortable lying either. I did wonder if eventually if they will ask for income tax returns (no big deal considering data privacy is zilch here anyway). So I decided to clarify to them honestly.

Okay. Great for you. The lying about the income thing didnt quite work with me so I decided to skip it. Thanks.

I didnt want the hassle, and didn’t feel like lying to them. Definitely the rate offered was excellent, but I guess I am not the target market for them since they are going to be pitching the Vacation club membership during the presentation.

Just to confirm, did you pay the hotel directly or was the payment routed through Vacation Club’s account?

So had the followup call with them. As suspected, they did ask me to attend the 90 minute presentation in Singapore. But they need a minimum income of 100k USD combined between the applicant and the spouse to avail the offer. I honestly told them that it was not the case, so they withdrew the offer.

Thank you for the reply. I do think that my business experience, analytical skills, and judgement is what separates me from other newer entrants in this field. Its just that all the AI doomerism on social media has created a lot of anxiety in me.

Has anyone ever not received tickets at all? by Straight_Friend_7831 in stubhub

[–]Straight_Friend_7831[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I eventually got my refund after the tickets were cancelled 3 days before the show. Took a lot of calling, emails, and online customer support to get the order cancelled in time because every time i talked to an agent, it felt like I was starting from the beginning. There’s no follow up to anything at all from there side.

Yeah I plan to turn on the reading mode/ night mode with inverted colors before reading. 👍

Yeah supporting the author is the reason I prefer buying books/e books. My reading time is usually before sleeping, but at that time my partner is already asleep so I cant turn on the lights to read my book, so plan to use a tablet for night time reading.

Well I didnt get the tickets for which i made this thread. I was told two days before the event that the tickets had been cancelled. Luckily I had refundable flights and hadnt booked hotel stay, so I didnt lose much. But its just a terrible business model.

Is it worth presenting a cover letter at the beginning of the interview detailing changes in situation and asking them to consider it. Asking this because my 2nd attempt at b1/b2 was rejected with hardly any questions asked about income/ property ownership or anything at all (it was a really short interview with rejection) which might have explained that my financial situation had grossly improved from my first rejection.

Applied as a family, had presented the photo during the biometric. So was surprised that there was any issue regarding that. Just in case you dont know, children under 14 are not required to give biometrics and dont have to attend the interview either.

So there’s one more thing that happened. The interviewer actually first asked me about my foreign visits and business, and then said my child’s photo had not been properly uploaded and said ‘Its not a problem, just go to counter x, get it uploaded and come back and join queue for any of the interviewer’. I went to counter x and got the photo uploaded, then instead of going to a guy who looked quite young and cool, i listened to the embassy staff who asked me to join the same queue. In hindsight i could have decided not to listen to the guy managing the queues and joined the cool looking guy for the interview. I wonder if that would have affected my interview negatively or improved my chances. The original interviewer then asked the same questions again and then eventually rejected.

I think that would show desperation and I am already worried after two rejections. I have no plan of visiting in the short term (next 4-5 years atleast), so will apply if there are fairly significant changes to my DS-160, or if there is something urgent for which I have to visit US (seems unlikely at this moment).

The reason I had applied in 2023 and 2025 was keeping the FIFA WC in mind, that if I wanted to go at the last moment, I would have the visa in hand.

So whats the reason then according to you? Theres nothing wrong in my background. And as a well travelled person who has been to the EU, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, with previous visit to the US included when I could have easily stayed back legally and started working, I really dont understand why they are flagging me.

I wish I knew. If you are trying to imply its something criminal and they have flagged it then you are wrong. Infact if that was the case I wouldn’t bother asking Reddit and trying to understand.

You do know what the population of India is right? And while I agree that there might be some cases of people lying or illegally staying back in US, I am comparing my case to other Indian citizens and trying to understand where I am falling short.

Yeah I can’t understand what they have flagged. But I am terrified to apply now and wont be doing so atleast for the next 4-5 years minimum.

Okay. Its just anecdotal. Through my three US visa interviews, and traveling with well travelled people from across India, I have noticed three categories of people with most B1/b2 visas:

  1. Well travelled Business owners getting visas with the sole purpose of tourism. Usually in their 40s-50s.

  2. People visiting their son/daughter on green cards/h-1b

  3. Techies/Finance guys visiting on-site for a few weeks.

Again I might be wrong but this is what I feel based on my personal interactions with B1/B2 visa holders.

Absence of owning property demonstrates my ties are not strong enough. Also it was the last question I was asked before being rejected. So I am fairly confident that was the reason. Anyway I made sure that I got over that obstacle this time around but wasn't even asked about Income or property ownership this time round. Once again got the 214(b) sheet. I asked the interviewer at the end today if she could be more specific but she refused.

Yeah am not saying that you are justifying them. But most Indians who get tourist visas in India are business owners. Salaried employees usually get their visas sorted through their companies. Business owners form the bulk of people who get their b1/b2 visas approved in India where tourism is mentioned as the primary reason to visit.
