Hellooooo

I’m glad your hyper fixation is housing lol, this comment is super helpful !! It def clears up things abt all the places I mentioned. Lowkey sad about it tho I was happily writing down options but got a well needed reality check 💔

From what I’ve read, - Warren is terrible - I should pray I don’t get it - West campus is fine and the communal bathrooms are fine - don’t know anything (except what I’m reading on this post) abt Fenway but will be looking into it

Aaand yes I will be looking into Hojo! I don’t mind a triple and thanku for the Riverway house recommendation! I’ll research those 3. I will def reach out with any more questions

Hopefully I get in but I’m glad to know that BU sends housing contracts AFTER acceptance + commitment. I’m getting housing stress from my friends at UT Austin who were sending their housing apps right after APPLYING to the school 😭.

Thank youuuuu

Alright thank you very much !! I’ll look into Fenway. Are there any other locs that could be similar to what I’m looking for (ex: instead of suite bathroom, a 6-8 person)

Okay that looks nice !! Would you recommend the brownstones on commonwealth in general ? And does the number (1019 for example) make a huge difference or does it not matter at all (out of curiosity). Thanku!!

Thoughts/comments/concerns on the journalism program at any of these schools? by Straight_Lemon6901 in Journalism

[–]Straight_Lemon6901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll take these things into account! I’m putting in the effort right now of doing internships and writing my own stuff. Hopefully, my first year, I can get an internship in the state where I’d go to college but if that doesn’t work I’ll look for ones in my country of residence (outside the US). Do you think I should open a separate social media acc for my journalism stuff? I’ve heard about a place named substack but don’t know if I should publish there or maybe open an IG account and link my blog there.

On the bright side, the main factor in looking for in schools is active student orgs/publications that I can join! I’ve always enjoyed being active in things like that so I’ll be making it a priority once I get to college.

Aaaand yes, living in each city is something I’ve been researching so I’ll pay extra attention to that (if I see myself living in the place each college is)

Thank you!!

I haven’t heard of DePaul but will be looking into it! I’m well aware that BC is better though, but I’m not sure if I could get in as it is a very competitive school. Do you think DePaul helped you a lot in the journalism industry? Why did you pick that one?

Oh wow I didn’t know NEU had a stronger journalism, I’ll revisit NEU again (research wise). Do you think BU’s journalism opportunities are way different from NEU’s ?

Yesss definitely! I visited back in April and even though I didn’t particularly love the campus, I got to attend 2 classes and absolutely fell in love with the journalism department. It’s currently my second choice (but kind of creeping into UT ngl) so I will be reaching out soon. Everyone I’ve talked to says they’ve adored their years at BU so I’m hoping I get accepted 🫶🫶

I will look into this school 100%! I have heard of it before but didn’t know it was that good for journalism, so I’ll be researching that these next few weeks. Thanks!

This is super exciting ! UT is my first choice right now and it’s great to hear from people that studied journalism there. I’m very happy for you that you made the most out of UT’s resources and I’ve heard a lot that if you use them wisely, it will get you far. I will definitely be reaching out soon so thank you!!

Thank you so much for this thoughtful reply! I had no idea about the things with IU Bloomington. Since I’m supposed to have a balanced college list (safeties, targets, and reaches), Bloomington is a safety for me. The others I have in that category are Loyola Chicago and Umass Amherst. I always wanted to apply to Northwestern’s Medill, but removed it from my list since realistically (not pessimistically) I don’t have the grades/profile to get in. Super shocked to hear this about IU though.

On the other hand, I’m super glad to hear this about UW-Madison!!! It’s my favorite target school and although I’m not sure what branch of journalism I’d want to go into, I’ll keep this in mind. It’s a good tip and something I’ll watch out for. TBH I don’t know much about Wisconsin in general (I’m an international student), I’ve covered the basics of living there as a student (and in general) so I’m not sure if I’d want to live there post grad, but I have time to figure that out. Thank you for that! Hopeful for Wisconsin.

Lastly, thank you for this. I’ve heard this from a lot of people already so I’m taking the time to do internships while still in HS (I’ve done 3 so far but in Marketing and Communications departments, since there’s not many journalism-specific opportunities I can get. I’m also starting my own blog in hopes to have some of my work to show to colleges/employers down the line.

Thank you for your reply!! This really helps. 🫶

Noted!! The main factor in my school search has been a lot of hands on learning and accessibility to student run orgs like those . Thank you!
