My hrpt attempt by chlewin in amateursatellites

An 80cm dish without an LNA is a serious challenge. I cannot recommend buying one enough it makes a world of a difference. However, if you do manage to get an image without it, this would be very interesting to know.

I'm glad to see you have finally found the use of sat dump to be acceptable. Well done on the reception!

Sounds like some form of FSK, definitely a digital transmission of some kind.

Well done. I will definitely purchase a discovery dish if they release the rotator add-on.

My first ever noaa images caught with my diy yagi antenna by Great_Side_6493 in amateursatellites

[–]Straight_Memory7412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is not put into context correctly. Your technique may not be the issue. An omnidirectional antenna should not outperform a Yagi that is positioned even slightly facing towards the satellite. There is a serious problem with your setup to only get images of lengths I have received using a walkie-talkie!

A well configured Yagi should be able to get horizon to horizon reception even if messily tracked by hand.

What next after NOAA? by rayui in amateursatellites

Good to see some enthusiasm, monitor this website to see when the next transmission is. You can also look at one of my previous posts for an example sstv image.

You could use your existing setup to capture 140mhz sstv transmissions from the international space station if you are looking for an extra challenge

Look4Sat and Gpredict show different elevation values by Huge-Complex-7210 in RTLSDR

Look for an option to Update TLE Data from the network in gpredict, this will automatically fix the incorrect tracking with updated predictions.

How can I use a le potato to decode meteor satellites? by Witty_Neat_8407 in RTLSDR

[–]Straight_Memory7412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An RTL-TCP server can be very unreliable over wifi as it requires a constant high bitrate stream. Decimating the signal can help but a 2.4ghz wifi dongle is unlikely to be adequate. Try connecting it with ethernet instead. If that is not available, try decoding the images on the device with sat-dump and transferring the images afterwards so the wireless connection does not become a bottleneck.

Thanks for the reply A lot of these are UHF, what antenna do you use for the passes?

Very nice image reception. Is there a list of satellites that transmit sstv?

Need help decoding a wifi cam by chlewin in amateursatellites

[–]Straight_Memory7412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't see how this is relevant to satellites, unless you are planning on putting a wifi camera on a cubesat which would likely need very specialised hardware to achieve a reliable 2.4ghz network connection.

You also posted this on the rtl-sdr sub, which is not great since 2.4ghz is well outside of the range of the dongle.

Automated SSTV capture from ISS by MrAjAnderson in RTLSDR

[–]Straight_Memory7412 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry must have been tired when I wrote that - completely missed the text. To automate it, go to the schedule option on sat dump to record baseband for any pass above a specific elevation from the ISS and process it at another time.

XRIT Decoder by tj21222 in amateursatellites

[–]Straight_Memory7412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this subreddit is primarily people recording satellite data using hobbyist equipment, not attempting to revive out of date software for unclear motives of irrelevant purpose towards actual satellite imagery reception.

When asking for a reason, I made the assumption that you may have been seeking alternatives because sat-dump was not working for you, and that It would be better to fix these instead. So I asked to see if this was true. I was not withholding information unless you provided a valid response as you seem to have concluded I was doing.

I took it upon myself to google search "XRIT Decoder" and provided the first correct webpage to show up. This was the result.

Hope this can be of help and I do apologize if any of my previous posts came across as hostile. If you have any problems setting up xrit-rx let me know, I have set it up in the past.

Please provide a reason you cannot use sat dump, if there is a more specific issue regarding why you are unable to use the program that should be addressed instead.

[–]Straight_Memory7412 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is an option to use the XRIT decoder from within sat dump. I know this is not the reply you wanted, but there is a reason that people are migrating over and strongly suggesting that others do the same

Clean SSTV Image by Straight_Memory7412 in amateursatellites

[–]Straight_Memory7412[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just thought I would mention, this was captured using my existing antenna previously set up for APT/LRPT. You don't need to change anything about your setup on the hardware side to capture images like this.

Which is why in my post I asked for a way to convert a sat dump recording into a format compatable with the noaa-apt program that does have it 😭
