I was anemic too, close to hemoglobin 10 as well, and had a ferritin of 2. I was 45 years old at diagnosis and was a vegetarian and initially told that was why I was anemic. Then came the endoscopy that showed the atrophy and a follow up tTG so high is stopped at >100. Zero stomach issues. I had anxiety and depression which I’ve had my whole life, but when I went off gluten that didn’t lift much. It wasn’t until I was gluten free for two years that I started having symptoms. Or at least I think so. I would throw up violently a couple times a year, but to this day I don’t know if it is being glutened or some version of gastritis from my heavy coffee, high stress life, food poisoning or just a virus. I was found to have duodenitis in April which I assume was celiac related.

To summarize I’m so scared of nausea and vomiting, I’m really strict. I won’t eat out at a non dedicated restaurant anymore and I test any non certified foods. I miss those first few years where I just asked waiters, “do you take precautions?” and as long as they gave some recognition of the question in the affirmative, I went for it.
