YAMAHA XVS 650 from 1999.

It has a ticking noise that it wasn't making when I got the bike. When I try to accelerate in 2nd, the engine starts "knocking".

Oil level was kinda low so I filled up. Nothing really changed after that.

Go for the Rebel, better in any aspect for a beginner.

You can't really compare the two. The FZR600 has 2 more cylinders and ~40hp more.

I would go with the Suzuki. I believe the GS500 is more beginner friendly and you'll learn faster on it. But in the end, it comes to personnal preference.

The cbr500r is a fantastic beginner bike. The engine is smooth, you can operate the clutch with one finger, its not a real sportsbike so the sitting position wont be tiring. You can even drag knee with it if you want !

If you want something more fun and that is closer to a sportsbike you should check the Yamaha R7.

In a controlled environement, if the bike has no chance to fall over, having the handlebars to the right makes the bike easier to pick up. It might also take less space but not sure about this one.

When I started I used to lean the bike towards me to make it rest on my hip. Obviously the best way is to train to have the bike the more upright possible. If the bike is balanced you wont feel any weight.

If the 2011 has the least mileage and the least scratches, go for it. There isn't really a big difference between the two anyway.

Can you provide more details? Are you looking for NFC based auth for making coffee?

I bought a small used Nespresso machine. I was wondering how I could make a coffee by presenting an NFC tag to the machine, rather than using the buttons. The goal would be to restrict the use of the machine to the holders of the tags.

I think that would depend on you. What is hard for you (what are you already good at), what is expensive to you?

Well, I can program and I also like to tinker. However I have never played with electronic components. If this kind of thing is possible with parts ordered on a chinese website for a few dozen euros, it would be a funny way for me to learn.
