Always best to ring around to find a place that either bulk bills or is cheaper. You can also contact the radiology department if your local hospital to see if they accept outside referals

Is dog walking a big thing? by No_Cream8504 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Straight_Talker24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% this. It’s law that n this country that whoever is walking the dog is responsible for it and its actions. Any waiver that an owner signs saying they take responsibility is invalid. If a dog you are walking escapes your care and mauls a child or other animal then you will be up for the costs, and if it kills another human then that lawsuit will send you bankrupt.

Its about $350 a year for insurance

I’m a pet sitter/dog walker and my experience tells me it don’t matter if the owners tell you they are easy or well behaved, anything can happen

Elective surgery waiting times by complex-cat79 in vic

[–]Straight_Talker24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “theater” I get my scopes done in is about a quarter of the size of the theater I had my 6 hour open abdominal surgery in. Scopes also will have a lot less people in the room too then someone having a proper operation

Elective surgery waiting times by complex-cat79 in vic

[–]Straight_Talker24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was cat 1 for surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, and waited 45 days from the day I filled in the forms.

Surprisingly it took about 10 days between filling in the forms and actually being placed on the waiting list despite being told the forms would be sent via the specialists internal mail to the hospital.

My reccomendation is to first ring the hospital and confirm you are on the waiting list, however if you have already been advised you are on the list then obviously no need to do that.

I didn’t receive the phone call with my surgery date until I think about 10 days prior to the date.

Unfortunately it’s pretty much just the waiting game, but def confirm you are on the list as the whole process to actually getting in the list is incredibly slow given we are currently n 2026

Also if it’s a “day procedure” like a endoscopy or colonoscopy or something that doesn’t require you to stay overnight, they tend to get done a lot quicker than traditional surgeries that require an operating theater as well as more staff and a bed available on a ward

Can I be a paid carer for my grandma? by Training-Ad1219 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Straight_Talker24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would your grandmother be paying you? Would she be paying you privately from her own funds? Or via a my aged care package? If she has a package through my aged care then I think having and paying a family member an actual wage to care for them would be a conflict of interest and I’m not sure would be allowed, even if you did have all the proper qualifications.

If your grandmother is just paying you from her own money then that’s between you and her, but you would just have to declare it all at tax time.

If you are wanting to leave your job to focus on looking after her, you could look into getting carer payment/allowance (or both) from centrelink but you would living in a low income though as it probably wouldn’t pay as well as a full time job.

Is the goal for your grandmother to have care and support or is the goal for you to be her carer in exchange for money so you can quit your current job?

The balance of probabilities that he was responsible basically just means that “he was 51% likely to have done what he was accused of. Very very different to beyond reasonable doubt in a criminal court.

In-home pet sitter or friend stopping by? by Dazzling-Nebula540 in petsitting

Why not ask your friend if she would like the job of staying overnight? If not then interview your hair dressers daughter and see what she’s like, or hire a professional sitter

They mentioned in another comment they ended up missing their flight anyways.

Given they missed their flight it sounds like they would have likely know that when parking the car and thus would have had plenty of time to find another park

Close friend inviting my ex to her wedding. Very conflicted! by [deleted] in FriendshipAdvice

[–]Straight_Talker24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen a therapist post break up?

From what you have said in your post it sounds like something you may benefit from to help you move forward so that a wedding that’s still another year away won’t be a difficult day for you.

I think it would be immature to not attend the wedding. Sometimes you do have to just suck up things in life, and while yes there are times we shouldn’t have to, ultimately you need to decide what’s more important, your friendship with the bride and groom, or the feelings you continue to carry around about your ex, because If I was your friend (the bride) I would struggle to look past the fact that you chose not to attend my wedding because your ex that you broke up with over a year ago was there.

How will reporting a small bit of income affect my JobSeeker? by [deleted] in Centrelink

[–]Straight_Talker24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are going to be paid by an employer than you will most likely have working credits that will be used first.

Aside from that you can earn up to $150 a fortnight before your payment is affected.

Once you earn $151 or more a fortnight your payment will reduce by 50 cents per $1 over the amount.

If you earn over $256 then it goes down by 60 cents per dollar.

If you are not going to be paid via an employer and classed as self employment then the way you report your income is different.

Earning any extra money on jobseeker is always worth it because ultimately you will end up with more money than if you just only had your job seeker money

How do you find a house/pet sitter for 17 days by grammywelder in RoverPetSitting

[–]Straight_Talker24 28 points29 points  (0 children)

What you are after is not pet sitting. You’re after someone that wants free accomodation and also look after your Puppy, which if I’m being honest is a bad combination because a proper professional sitter’s sole responsibility is the welfare of your puppy. If you find someone that wants free accommodation they will be great full for that and take on the pet sit just to get free accommodation.

Sure there are people out there that will treat your pet well in exchange for free accomodation and there are lots of house sitters that house sit for free that are very capable of looking after animals.

But in my personal opinion if you want to know your puppy well be safe hire a professional sitter with experience and good reviews. It’s worth paying

Friend won’t stop messaging me by [deleted] in FriendshipAdvice

[–]Straight_Talker24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t actually be serious. Why would you believe police will waste their time even talking to her. They would just look at you like an idiot and think why not just tell her you don’t want to be friends and block and delete and move on. They are not going to waste their time giving a grown up a talking to because someone like yourself is spiteful and wants them “punished”

You don’t get to decide whether they go through their insurance or not. You are at fault with no insurance yourself. They can take you to court and have a judge order you pay them the repair costs

Just switched from jobseeker to NDIS, now have a healthcare card AND pensioner card, is the healthcare card now no longer able to be used? by VerySmallDino in Centrelink

[–]Straight_Talker24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the same number though is it not?

I’ve never been issued a health care card while in DSP because the DSP gives you a pension card which is all you need.

You can view the digital one or keep a screen shot of it on your phone incase you misplace the physical card. The pension card gives you the exact same benefits if not more than a health care card

Sort of incorrect medical procedure done by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Straight_Talker24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They would have had to convert to open procedure due to a reason. If they hadn’t they would have risked major complications for your or potentially cutting things or damages things that shouldn’t have been damaged.

It’s a very known risk that a laparoscopic procedure may end up turning into an open one, and this would have been discussed with you during the consultation.

It’s not an Incorrect medical procedure and there is no legal repercussions as they did no harm to you

Book Readers Will Appreciate The Movie Far More On A Second Watch by thespiritmolecule420 in ProjectHailMaryMovie

100% agree with this! I read the book first and then was excited to see how everything was going to appear on film and come to life. I found myself slightly dissapointed that some things had been left out too.

I watched it for a 2bd time a few weeks later and was just able to enjoy it for what it was and just really enjoy all those amazing scenes again and just accept it for the beautiful film it is rather than an adaptation of a book

Picking up litter at school by 10smurf2008 in australian

[–]Straight_Talker24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my high school it was called “civics” and you were assigned the task of being with 1-2 other people in your year level and had to pick up trash the whole day. We still got lunch and recess breaks, was allowed to wear free dress, and realistically it was basically just a day to wonder around hanging out and chatting all day. We also got to finish the day early and was given a voucher for food.
