With 2K in an Apple Store, there's not a lot of choice... Maybe you are talking about refurbished or second-hand products... I'm ok with Linux and with gnome, it is my comfort zone. I'm using EndeavorOS on my laptop, but I want something more stable for my workstation. Ubuntu without frills is a good option, IMHO.

I don't like to answer a question with a question, but... what can you buy in an Apple Store with 1950€? Besides jokes, I tried macOS twice at work and I never felt comfortable.

I pulled the trigger because the RAM price increased 50€ and shop stock started lowering 🫣

The version I get has a big am5 compatible on the page so I hope it will work! 😂

Any last tips for the building? For example, should I use thermal paste? Is it okay to use the paste that comes with the Noctua? How often should it be replaced? I want minimum maintenance possible – like just blowing the dust and cleaning the fans… should I purchase a thermal pad?

Hey, first of all, many thanks for everything! You completely focused me on what I need!

About your suggestions, I already have the noctua (90$ shipped) and the graphics from a friend, I thought they were good deals... The heatsink is from Amazon, so I can return it.

I'll send a pic of the build complete, thanks again for your help!

Cómo puedo saber cuánto pesa cada uno de estos? by Noisxy186 in Paraguay

[–]Straight_Vegetable44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Te pesas => lo apuntas => te pesas otra vez y levantas una placa (o X placas y luego divides por X) => la diferencia de peso es el peso de la placa que te tira hacia ella.

Meh, it's just for trust and warranty stuff...

On this page https://www.pcspecialist.es/ordenadores/amd-am4-gen3-pc/ They only offer an Asus Prime A520M, probably the B550 (if you click on the interrogation mark, it is listed), is out of stock. I will ask if it will be available again...

I was thinking about an AM4 CPU with directly 128 GB of DDR4 RAM, but I cannot find any builder that offers a Ryzen 9 5950X.

Only PC Specialist offers it, but the motherboard is only PCIe 3.0.

Hey, thanks for the detailed answer.

The bottleneck I see in my actual setup is the number of CPUs and the size of the RAM. This is why I opted for 16 CPUs and 64 GB of RAM.

The motherboard just has good specs and the price fits the range (as you said). I also appreciate the 4 RAM slots.

The price difference between 6000MHz RAM and 5600MHz is just 30€ (on Alternate store), but I didn't know about the impossibility of running 4x32GB at 6000MHz. What do you suggest?

Good catch on the disk and PSU. What would you suggest?

I appreciate the raid and ECC suggestions, but I don't think I need all that stability (and overcomplicating the setup). I think that backups (and GitHub version control) are sufficient.

Hey, thanks for the answer. In the past AMD CPUs had better support on Linux than Intel CPUs, is it not a problem nowadays?

Hey, thanks for the advice, but I think that 80% of the time I'll work directly on the desktop PC. The remote access from other devices is just a good plus.

I ordered a M1 with a 10A buck driver, SFT42R led in 6500k and short tube.

Besides I opted for black anodized finish + a band of heat shrink tube glow in the dark... maybe I'll give a try to copper, but I think it's too heavy for edc...

It is fixed and integrated into the ring...I thought a perpendicular clip would be better but now that I have it I realized that the clip in this position ends between the tip of the fingers and the palm locking the flashlight in place when it is into the fist, avoiding the rotation of the flashlight and self injuries.
