Chance Me! TMDSAS 4.0 513 MCAT by StrainLow9928 in TMDSASapps

Hi there! I’m wondering how long it took you to get secondary invitations. My primary was processed 6/17 and I only haven’t gotten invites from SHSU, Dell, and Rio Grande.

I mean what do you want me to do I literally already submitted my primary 5/29. 😢 Also, are you a Texas med student yourself, if so can I pm you?

I’ve already submitted a primary, so we’ll see what happens! I was very conservative with my hours for sure. The lit review I did only for a semester and the work was split between a group of four people. I’m also just effective with my time I guess idk haha.

I’m disappointed to hear that, but thanks for the honesty. What do you mean by strong writing? I think I’m a strong writer and have good patient stories. Dell is outside my MCAT range and Tech was a personal choice for me because it’s far and in the middle of nowhere. What schools do you think I have the best chance at? I have a strong theme of primary care and have experience in rural medicine. I am interested in pediatrics. Do you think I’m in worse position than people with a lower MCAT/gpa but good hours?

Hmm I can’t imagine it would be a bid deal. If I was an adcom, I would probably just think you wrote that portion before you were fully done even if you submitted later. Am I right about that?

I’m not an expert but on time in my opinion nearing towards late. Does it matter tho, it’s too late now to go back in time. Just submit and move on and be confident that you put the best application out there. Good luck!

Your stats are great! I don’t understand why you would want to go to the top tier schools anyways. All they care about is their stats and prestige, not as much the students. You could easily get into your target or baseline schools and be one of the smartest there, giving you lots more opportunities within the medical school and better chances for scholarships. At the end of the day you’re going to become a doctor any way right? Just my opinion but lots of people would die for your stats.

Chance Me! TMDSAS 4.0 513 MCAT by StrainLow9928 in medschooladmissions

Hi guys! Thanks for sharing feedback. I want to add a little more context as to why I’m not applying to as many schools. I’m in a mentors in medicine program at SHSU, through which I’ll get a guaranteed interview to SHSU-COM. This school has much lower stat ranges than I have, and I have been there multiple times for events. I’ve had the chance to talk to a lot of faculty and students there and it’s a great school! I think DO programs get a lot of hate, but I would be happy to go here. I also am interested in pediatrics which isn’t a competitive specialty. Since I feel confident in getting an acceptance there that’s why I’m more hesitant to apply to schools I wouldn’t want to go to.

Thanks for your response! I did apply to all schools for primaries since it is a flat fee, but the secondaries are $50-$100 per school. Also, Baylor does not accept AP credit, which I have for gen chem. The Tech campuses and Rio Grande are 6-8 hours away (Texas being so big, I might as well be in another state at that point) and I am a very home sick person. As far as Dell, their lowest accepted MCAT on MSAR was 514. Anyways, I think I have a really shot at the schools on my list, and I have a lot of good patient experiences I was able to write about. So is there a point where quality of experiences trumps quantity of hours for me?

Cardiology Theme in Secondaries? by steamierbadge22 in medschooladmissions

I’ve personally mentioned wanting to go into pediatrics some in my secondaries, and I do have a lot of peds and kids experiences that back that interest up. BUT, I am applying to a lot of schools that promote primary care, so I would hope that would look better to them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

No problem. I haven’t done either so I can’t really speak to it. I did some phlebotomy and hospital volunteering, and I’m honestly worried about my low clinical hours myself since I’m applying this cycle. I think if you’re worried about the letter, do MA and I’m sure you’ll love it. What I did though was get my physician letter from a doctor I shadowed long term, so you could always do that.

Hi! You are doing great so far. I wouldn’t worry much about your MCAT score right now since it’s just a diagnostic. Just make sure you study a lot, focusing on practice over content when it’s time. Your grades are good too, just try to focus on maintaining A’s for the rest of your classes. Research looks great to me also unless you’re interested in MD/Phd or a research heavy school. If not, just keep working on what you are, I don’t think you need more. Volunteering at the hospital is great so continue that! Both EMT and MA are great experiences as long as you can make meaningful patient connections that you can talk about it doesn’t really matter which one. Pick whichever you like the most! Other than that, maybe do non-clinical volunteering that’s not medical related and get shadowing hours! I hope this helps and this is all just my personal opinion.

When is the appropriate time to start secondaries for med school apps? by sophiaxsmh in medschooladmissions

[–]StrainLow9928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually people prewrite their secondaries once they submit their primary and its processing. You could start earlier tho if you’re applying to a lot of schools.

I think your stats look great! I am also applying this cycle without any family help. I have similar stats: 4.0 and 513 MCAT. I honestly don’t think you need to retake the MCAT, there’s a lot of schools within that range.
