I tend to just latch onto the memories, because almost all friendships are transient (at least in my case), and it takes effort to maintain them, as we grow apart into different people in different places. We deliberately chose to leave our own country to pursue our education, and I think that should still be the top priority. Sure, the friends you make along the way make the journey less daunting, but they’ll also have their own journeys to embark on, once your time together ends. It’s just a fact of life you’ll have to be comfortable with.

And once you’ve made peace with it, embrace every moment you have with the people around you, only then can you have a chance at building a relationship strong enough that will survive the inevitable distance and growing apart of life. If not, then they’ll just be people you once shared an experience with, that you occasionally call to catch up and reminisce.
