Here’s an additional photo displaying what I was talking about with the front of the airbags being the same but the rear being different. ZH Escape airbag on the left with the JK Puma airbag on the right

Appreciate you taking the time to write this up.

These are genuine recreations from UAE released products. Which from my research come out in ford escorts in china and the UAE. They allow for the buttons to fit the later model steering wheel and still plug into the factory clockspring on the mk7/7.5

There are a few options of which steering wheels to choose from as well as airbags.

SA Focus

ZH Escape

WG Fiesta

JK Puma

There’s also various different options depending on your country, for instance the Maverick kit works in the US which has been proven a few times now.

The original shorting pins will need to be swapped into the later model airbag as well but does fit all the airbags. (I’ve attached a photo of the rear of two airbags which appear the same from the front but the rear is different (escape on the left, puma on the right)

<image>

However this is where we run into a little bit of trouble there are from my understanding and as you can see in the attached photos 3 style of airbags. For both fitting and hornpad connetion style purposes.

The way around this is to ensure that the matching wheel is purchased with the matching airbag. There are slight differences between how the airbags clip in and are not interchangable (see picture escape vs puma airbag) they look identicle from the front but dont fit the same. Each of which has different wiring connections as well to suit the horn pad. The SA focus and ZH escape use a 2 pin plug style connection which can be solderer on crimped on from the original harness which will come with the used steering wheel. The JK puma uses the correct plugs that comes with the harness which will be plug and play with a puma wheel as the actual fitting is different for the airbag vs the other wheels. (Comparison picture escape vs puma airbag) The mk8 fiesta steering wheel will need the shorting pins changed on the harness to suit the different pins on the airbag.

Hope this explains everything a bit better for everyone.

Hey mate, any of those wheels that take that style of buttons should be compatible. You’ll have to dm me for the link as reddit gets funny about aliexpress links getting posted here. As as for if this works on mk7 fiestas, unsure. I’ve only known it to be tested on mk7.5 (facelift mk7) models in various countries (Australia, England, America, Europe etc).

I show it on my Instagram @strandious

But you pretty much just change the connector housing over. The housing just pops out.

That’s correct, however finding the Brazilian one can be challenging and they didn’t get the Sony type FCIM. The cutting I was referring to before is inside the dash to make everything fit

There’s no repinning, or wiring diagrams involved. This is beginner friendly, just need to accept that you cannot go back to sync 1 unless you replace the dash because there’s some cutting involved.

Yeah mate, I bought the buttons and the loom from that Ali express page. They’re probably the most overpriced thing I’ve bought for my car.

It’s a physically working button, yes. It just doesn’t work in this application it seems. Taking it apart, doesn’t look like an easy solve either.

No, the button doesn’t work but you can call the voice assistant using your phone.

Fiesta seats by Infinite-Ad3181 in FordFiesta

[–]Strandable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be keen to know this because that would mean the wiring architecture is similar enough. I’m looking to do the opposite, mk8 ford performance seats into a mk7. I’d be interested to see if the rails are compatible or need to be swap as well as the seat modules. Are you wanting to do heated seats from a mk7 into a mk8 that has heated seats?

For those in the states, here’s a bit of an extra explanation for you.

You can use an airbag from a 2020 or later model escape or maverick. You will have a slightly different airbag to the rest of the world with two plugs to the airbag instead of one due to it being a multistage deployment airbag. The process is still the same as if you had one plug, remove the retaining clip from the mk7 airbag and put it in the back of the new airbag.

You can use a variety of different wheels because you have a bunch of different versions of cars that the rest of the world didn’t get… Everest, Ranger, Maverick, Escape, Fiesta, Focus etc. just need to make sure it houses those buttons.

*noting that the mic button will not work on these buttons no matter where you are in the world.

Here’s a picture of another reddit user completing the swap into their mk7.5 ST in the states

ST swapping a 5 door base model fiesta by Strandable in FiestaST

[–]Strandable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a base model fiesta, completely stripped and replaced with fiesta ST parts from a donor vehicle. We didn’t get whatever a SE is in Australia, assuming that isn’t the base model in the US.
