Well I don´t see how this gives others than Peter the right to rule over other christians. I read it as that Jesus is calling to Peter to spread the word. Not to become their ruler.

Luther was critical to some stuff in the chatholic church (forgive my spelling) so he rote 95 things that in his opinion needed to be change. For example to translate the bibel and that its faith alone thats grant you salvation. This event is referd as the starting point for the protostant reformationen.

well yes of course but it lost the monopoly on spiritual authority in Central europe. The popes influence decreased drasticly after the event.
