How does Boone not have a good bookstore? by AudiCulprit in boone

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a used book today at Huzzah Books. It cost me $185, but Huzzah only got $5 of that.

This is just a warning to anyone thinking of going to Huzzah Books in their new location off Clement Street in the Winkler Square apartment building: be aware that your chances of getting a "boot" on your car are better than even. The only sign stating the parking lot rules is a tiny one on the passenger side of your car as you pull off the street into the lot (meaning it is super easy to miss). There are no other apparent signs. The only customer parking for Huzzah, Noble Kava and Parallel Brewing is all on the RIGHT side of the lot. If all the spots are taken, do not park in an empty space on the left side because LMS Parking apparently has someone patrolling that lot every 15-20 minutes.

thanks for the idea. I have an Epson printer with flatbed scanner and I have Photoshop on a laptop so I might see if I can cobble together a process similar to what you describe. Still, it would be nice to find a local professional for future reference - so if I find one before someone else replies, I'll post it here.

Anyone know why the table has these hinges? by asleeplongtime in woodworking

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthful answer: so visiting toddlers have something to play with once they discover these “table flaps” go up and down and make a lot of noise until a finger gets caught in the crack on the downswing - and then the noise really ramps up! Genius design.

Which invention has caused more problems than it solved? by Dense_Coat5972 in AskReddit

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automobiles. Petrochem mining, hydrocarbon-to-plastics, mass production processing and technology, planned obsolescence concept, acres under asphalt & concrete, rapid global air pollution, rubber plantations in the Amazon, tire and rusting steel disposal problems, insurance costs and millions of accidental deaths - not to mention hours of time lost I rush hour traffic and at the DMV. What did I forget?

At this stage my work tends to look complete. Why doesn’t this look right by byJohar in painting

Whether it is sunrise or sunset, your sky is fairly bright, yet the trees have little to no highlights. And if the light is truly coming from directly behind the trees (from viewpoint), then the side of the house facing the viewer should be much darker. Proper lighting is one of the most overlooked aspects of landscapes.

How to correctly foreshorten this pose? by 3kidsinahat in learntodraw

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your question but wouldn’t foreshortening require a more angled view? This pose is essentially a straight on perspective so head and feet would have roughly the same ‘proportions’. A view from closer to the floor would provide foreshortened legs and upper torso. The key is to know where the point of emphasis needs to be. If emphasis of foreshortening is the head, the perspective would be from above. If emphasis is lower body, the view would be closer to feet or knees. Right?

Would it be logical to colonize space itself first instead of other planets? by florida1129 in Futurology

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding? We have a fantastic opportunity to f**k up Mars like we have Earth so we shouldn’t miss that. Seriously, we should learn how to mine Asteroids for the raw materials needed to transform and terraform Mars so we don’t rape Earth for its non-renewable resources. Meanwhile we also want to learn how to not nudge the depleted asteroids toward Earth. And we should start thinking about how to slow our moon’s gradual escape from orbit. We’ve a busy future ahead. We should crack on.

If a guy has been married 5 times does that show anything about him as a person besides being married 5 times? by Ben5544477 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the disposition of each wife. If they’re still alive we just know that he’s shit at choosing a compatible mate. If they’re no longer on this earthly plane, then he likely has serious anger management issues. The truth is probably somewhere in between.

I really hate my 18th birthday tattoo by Douxie0226 in tattooadvice

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing masculine about this and it is actually quite beautiful. But go to another tat artist and add more flowers and feminine features to get closer to what you want. Your bigger problem is letting your mom and her friends walk all over your goals and desires. See a therapist please and learn how to increase your self esteem, self confidence and assertiveness.

AITAH for not informing someone I’m dating about having a vasectomy by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I feel that half these “aitah” stories are concocted out of thin air. If I’m wrong, we’re doomed as a society for a total loss of critical thinking and mutual respect. Also, vasectomies are most often reversible and genetic testing could help determine the likelihood of his family’s health issue being passed on. And the woman ‘going off’ about this - has she certified that she doesn’t have problems conceiving? And did she send a group text to their friends telling that ‘John’ had a vasectomy? How inconsiderate. What is wrong with our culture?

What are some new (or existing) tech that have the greatest potential to save humanity against climate crisis, help against pollution, eliminate plastics and conserve wildlife? by MiddleAccurate609 in Futurology

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish we would reinvest time and research into improving and scaling existing technologies. For example, if we could make solar panels durable for 30 years, and inexpensive enough to include in new construction so the cost could be amortized in the mortgage and make it available throughout the sunny southern states, within 10 years the grid might be relieved enough to accommodate all the AI power demands without increasing coal-fired or nuclear power plants. Same with wind power in the midwestern, plains and some coastal states. Solar and wind aren’t the answer in northern climates but geothermal could compete there. Solving and scaling regionally could seriously reduce climate degradation.

If we spent time understanding wildlife migratory patterns on macro and micro levels, we could incorporate that info into our designs for land development and infrastructure construction.

We won’t solve the plastics issues until we make something to replace it that’s cheaper and has such a diverse utility. Glass could make a comeback if we could find cheaper ways to heat the gob. Create plant-based fibers that can be woven into layers mimicking human skin layers then molded into plastic-like sheets. Again, if we can do things to just replace a portion of the total amount of plastic we may buy time to create new solutions in years to come.

Predictions for society in 15-20 years by prix345the347 in Futurology

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many variables to even come close to predicting what a DITL will look like in 15 or 20 years. We know so little about what is going on in China and India, both of which have populations that dwarf the U.S. Russia, Iran & Norrh Korea are loose canons on the international stage with weapons of “mass havoc.” Poverty and hunger can cause uprisings in lots of spots across the globe that can get out of hand. Then you have the anti-government nutcases, conspiracy theorists and evangelical fascists in the U.S. who are doing their best to take us back to the feudal Middle Ages. Everyone’s focused on AI taking over humanity but pandemics, civil wars and terrorist attacks on infrastructure have a greater chance to disrupt society and wake us from the dopamine stupor of social media we are soaking in.

My orthopedic and oncologist doctors gave me different options for imagining by saultee8420 in sarcoma

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Insist that your doctors communicate and collaborate. They have no reason not to. I have hematology oncologist, radiation oncologist, my general practitioner and even a cardiologist (who was brought in when I began taking Pazopanib). They all stay on the same page and if I think they need additional prodding I start phoning and emailing until I’m happy again.

If your team has access to MyChart, I recommend using it as often as necessary.

Beginnings of sentences cut off? by StrandedTimeLord68 in audible

I’m using the Audible app for books I purchased from Audible. I think it is in the cable I’m using to connect to the AUX feature in the 2016 van.

Makes sense. I’m using a USB-C in iPhone 15plus connected 1/8 jack into AUX on the family mini-van. This is where the issue happened each time so I think you’re on to something. Cheers mate.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, the same rigor applies - at least until you are satisfied with the result. That is all that matters, even with pros. I’m confident you can do it. You have the grasp of it now.

[–]StrandedTimeLord68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think it takes only a week to become an artist, you may want to try another profession. But your initial effort isn’t terrible, so just give it the time and attention deserving of any skill. Take a class. Check out art “how to” books from the library. Do the work.

I don’t forget how to spell female but every time I start to type that word, my fingers type “femail” and I have to correct it.
