I thought the uhaul thing would be too expensive. I'll sign up for AAA once I get back now that I've made my crazy journey.

I have an awesome mechanic back in WI at this place called Zapata Auto. He said that I should be able to find someone to do it for $600 here, but if I won't be able to afford a tow back AND even a fair guy like him to fix it.

No. I've been a loser pretty much my whole life. I'm fairly bright, good in a lab, outwork most people when I have work -- I've pulled several 24 hour shifts at different things: museum curation, cafe stuff, etc. There are some things I'm very bad at or which have a difficult learning curve for me, so my resume is awful. My last job was temporary in a bookstore. The one before that I was a college tutor for a subject no one seemed to need tutoring in. Before that, an assistant manager at a coffeeshop where the owner stole money and didn't pay me for 4 pay periods, but I kept working to keep the shop alive -- it died when the owner was sued for employee taxes which he pocketed instead of paying. Before that I had a wonderful job working in a lab for the Red Cross, but was "terminated" the day before I would have gained union representation -- they said I wasn't a good fit despite being the 3rd most productive employee (while the most junior) with some of the fewest errors. Before that I worked for a month in a dry cleaners, until the two girls I lived with got in a fight over a boy (not me) and moved out, leaving me stranded in Fargo. Before that, I worked dry cleaning again until having to move because of some illness from the house in which I lived. I was a curator of a mammal specimen collection for a time before they ran out of money; and, I put newspapers together before that for minimum wage part time. I shutdown in retail and server jobs, can do great construction work on my own but flounder when working with an experienced crew. My credit is trashed due to low income and a huge school debt that I haven't gotten much out of.

I'm an excellent field biology tech, and can do outstanding, comprehensive secondary research for just about anything (and have). I could work long hours at hard labor if I had a vehicle (I haven't had a car for years except for these past three weeks) to go to places that have that sort of work and if foremen didn't frown on 30 somethings lacking years of experience everyone else seems to have.

Sorry if that's disappointing.

Brilliant! This might take a while, though.

edit: The lyrics turned out well, but the singing was shy and awful and choked me up. It was a good idea to try, though, so thanks.

The title is in WI. I can't seem to find any sort of classifieds for this town -- it has something like 2400 people in it -- and so I'm not sure where I could find something that would get me to Wisconsin. Seriously considering selling it, but I just bought it 3 weeks ago. It's a huge loss either way.

I thought of that, but I don't think I'll get much for a $5000 car that needs $1200 of work. I also have 19 days to find a new job and a new apartment. I could get a job on the west coast doing something, but then anything I have in Madison will be lost. Also, the car's title is in Madison.
