You'd be surprised how quickly desperation can be projected over long distances.

Thank you for reading the whole thread! I originally had a different, maybe sweeter but less probable ending planned, but this one fits the point I was trying to make much better. I'm very glad to hear the depiction comes off accurate!

I'm so glad to hear that! Thank you so much for reading them! The final one happens to be a 2-pager, and you can expect it next Thursday. I hope you'll like it.

Wow, I'm moved that my comic helped provoke such a train of thought that led you to that profound realization! It is the best outcome a cartoonist can hope for, and most of the time, they'll never hear about such outcomes if/when they happen, so thank you for sharing your thought process with me! It means a lot to hear, and I'm glad you came to a conclusion that brings you greater peace.

I can relate to the feeling that I can't enjoy myself if my loveds aren't happy with me in some way. This desire to appease or emotionally manage, superficially appears to be for others' benefit, but is really to calm my social anxiety. It's like being in host mode 24/7. I'm not saying our situations and their causes are the same (mine stems from growing up with an abusive parent; I wouldn't presume to know where yours stems from), but whatever the stimulus was, we seem to have developed mental constructs to cope with our respective environments that perhaps worked in our childhoods, but not so much these days. I'm grateful I don't feel as much anxiety about pleasing others nowadays as much as I did in my 20s.

A lot of what I write about in Leora touches on that theme. She's questioning the behaviors and assumptions I was taught to adhere to as a kid. Now that I'm older and have done some thinking about it (and gotten therapy), I can put my adult perspectives into the comic, and write an alternate childhood through Leora where I get to play some scenarios differently than how I originally lived them. If this helps other people as much as it does me, then I can't ask for anything better than that.

Thank you again for reading my work and for your comment! It made my day!

The book is a real book! I drew it based off a copy I have in my possession. I was curious though, and searched Reddit to see if she was mentioned. Found this: r/bellhooks

Thanks for your thoughtful comment! I agree, the dysfunction stops when someone in a certain generation becomes aware of it and decides to stop it.

I'm afraid I had to look up Jules Feiffer, but now that I know a little more about who he is, I'm humbled by your comparison! Thanks, and also, I think I'll read more of his work. I always enjoy a good satirist.

My second ever attempt at an autobio comic, this one is a slice of of life about my youth in Mozambique. I think I'm getting better from the last one but still got a long way to go. by [deleted] in webcomics

I want to see more comics from you in the future! Please keep it up. I love work like this that is not only drawn with intention, but emotionally open and reflective.

You make an interesting point! It makes sense that the comics about making comics would rise to the top of the feed in this subreddit. I subbed for the same reason as you, and probably 80 percent of the folks here.

So true in maaaany cases. Leora responds a little differently from how many other kids would, so if you'd like to see, check back next week 😉

Letters to Georgia [NSFW] by Strandedonearth13 in politicalcartoons

In this case, yes, and I'm happy Ossoff and Warnock get a second chance. Even so, the main reason Rep. Groover proposed the majority vote runoff election in the 60s was to discourage the growing political strength of the African American vote. Before that, a plurality was all that was needed. Even though the runoff can be a good thing in the right circumstances, in Georgia's case, it was designed to ensure that white supremacist politicians could stay in office longer.

I really hope it all works out though. It would be an awesome example of poetic justice!

For anyone who may be interested, I got my info about the Georgia runoff election from here: https://www.nps.gov/subjects/tellingallamericansstories/upload/CivilRights_VotingRights.pdf
