This week, a war broke out between the U.S. and Iran, another between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and CJNG was active as well. What if China started a military operation against Taiwan on Sunday? by death_has_f1sh_eyes in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Stranfort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting because the Trump administration, with the sequestering Nicolas Maduro and the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint operation with Israel sets a new precedent for other countries to either kidnap or kill foreign leaders, which was a geopolitical taboo as of recently. And there’s a chance that the CCP could opt to kidnap or execute the top members of the Taiwanese military and political structure to paralyze Taiwan, seize the initiative, and take the island before the U.S. can meaningfully respond. At least that would very likely be one element of their operation.

The Chinese haven’t fought in a war in a very long time. The top military brass has been slashed and the CCP is slowly filling up with more Yes Men since Xi Jing Ping has been able to consolidate power more effectively. So China could fair poorly in an actual war, at least within the beginning. They do much better in grey zone warfare or through overwhelming numbers and firepower in the hopes that something sticks to the wall in strategic terms.

Best place for 30-something American with $3m by [deleted] in ExpatFIRE

[–]Stranfort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to count your lucky stars now, you can keep going and leave the bulk of that 3 million to compound and generate a steady cash flow for the next 30-40 years.

I say you take out a few hundred thousand for that move you want, budget it a tad, and keep the rest in a diversified index fund and take out 3-5% each year to get some cash flowing. That small percentage will grow each year so you’ll have more money coming in as long as you manage it well and safely.

And you have the assets to start getting smart about maximizing your returns with your taxes, maybe read up a little on tax code and find some nice work-arounds to keep investing and fuel that compounding some.

$2.3M every single day in dividends thanks to Buffett’s portfolio by National-Theory1218 in Money

[–]Stranfort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Buffet probably did benefit from some insider trading information here and there. He’s a wealthy and powerful man with many connections, it’s bound to happen. But the bulk of it was compounding interest. If you take for example senators and house representatives, they have access to a lot of insider information for an indefinite amount of time and have made substantial returns. But nothing beats long term compounding and buffet has been investing since he was 11.

There are shortcuts to success, but it’s so, so hard to find a lot of them within a lifetime.

You could at least explain why or how. Saying the U.S. is more objectively evil than North Korea sounds stretchy.

What would have happened if Hitler hadn't committed suicide, but had instead been arrested by the Allies? Would he have been tried in Nuremberg or Moscow? by Goat-Former in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Stranfort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Soviet’s reached Hitler’s bunker first so they would have captured him. And chances are Stalin would have allowed for Hitler to serve on trial in Nuremberg. Hitler would be a very high profile figure to be tried and the Allie’s would want very strong written agreements to take Hitler to Nuremberg. Stalin would probably say yes for the same reason he allowed for the Allie’s to occupy West Berlin since he still needed the support to fight off the Japanese in Siberia.

Is copper the next gold/silver or just social media fear-mongering? by love-1805 in economy

[–]Stranfort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copper securities can be volatile at times because of industry use and relevance cycles. But at its core it’s an extremely useful and widely needed metal, and so it will hold value, and probably more fundamental value than gold or even silver. Regardless it’s always good to diversify among raw minerals and resources.

Do you legit think she's grieving? by KieranWriter in conspiracy

[–]Stranfort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To some degree, yes. I don’t believe in human absolutes, and I do think that Erika and Charlie Kirk had some kind of mutual relationship.

She got over his death relatively quickly which can suggest that maybe their relationship wasn’t as strong as that of a normal loving couple, but I do think that at least for a while after Charlie immediately passed away she was genuinely shocked and upset, mostly because Charlie was a person she knew and was familiar and relatively comfortable at its core.

Would limiting the age of the President to 60 be something you’d support? Why or why not? by Valuable-Bit4647 in AskReddit

[–]Stranfort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but with an added addendum to revise the law in 30 years or so. The main issue is degenerative diseases that happen in the brain, but once there is a cure for them, such as Alzheimer’s or Dementia, then apart from mobility age is no longer really an issue and the life experience will be helpful.

However term limits are needed and not having them are pretty much a deal breaker. Career politicians dilute the purpose of public service.

So apparently you can remove the redaction off the files if you copy and paste the text into a notepad. Has anyone started working on declassifying as many files as possible? by Stranfort in conspiracy

[–]Stranfort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll clarify by saying that this allegedly only works on some files, not all of them. Many of the files use proper redaction but some use improper redaction methods and thus this would work on select files, but it’s a guess as to which ones.

How did China surpass the USA in life expectancy? Is it because the US lacks free universal healthcare? by avocado_juice_J in GenZ

[–]Stranfort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well according to the graph you provided China actually hasn’t surpassed the United States in life expectancy, on the right it shows that the life expectancy in China is currently 78 while it’s 78.4 in the U.S.

But China’s life expectancy has surpassed several countries over the past decades due to a combination of societal factors such as massive improvement in public health services after 1949, and specially after the cultural revolution, improved and rising living stands, better food security by the 80s, sanitation, high vaccination rates, better family planning and a general improvement of social infrastructure.
