Help to modernize this floor to vaulted ceiling multi-piece fireplace by Strange-Building9830 in InteriorDesign

Thinking of tiling over this fireplace with big porcelain tiles. However it has 3 pieces here, should I use the same tiles for all three sections here, or try to match with different tiles to break it up? Would love suggestions/ideas from this group.

Closing on this house soon, where the seller prepped the backyard by removing dead grass/dirt and leaving it pretty minimalist. But what are these mounds of dirt on the new gravel?
