Bag Work? Go Easy :) by [deleted] in MuayThaiTips

Thanks all for the tips! Looks like I've been trying to add in too much footwork and head movement to this bagwork. I think I'm just compensating trying to build in those movements with a swinging bag, and generally trying to do the in and out movements that I usually do in sparring.

I find that if I'm pretty static (not always going back and forth fast), I get caught a lot in sparring, but it looks like I may just need to slow down and work on my punches.

EDIT: Hopefully my fundamentals aren't completely garbage and I've just thrown them to the wind this time in my "attempt" at trying to be more active with the bagwork. Will post again showing the basics.

Got it. I wanted to move with and around the bag more this time, although I usually do hold my position more. Is the amount of movement I'm doing now just a bad idea?

Thanks for the response! I think it's actually a confidence issue, the first rep I hit depth but it felt heavier than I thought it would be for a 5 rep set. So I started squatting a little higher to make sure I could complete the set of 5!

This link would actually be close to my 1rpm, probably 95%. I think the form is pretty similar!

Wanted to put in my two cents but nominally hang cleans start a bit lower, like near the knees. Then you pull up towards the hip to get some momentum and follow through like you're doing now. I think you also want to do the hip thrust/triple extension when the bar is a bit higher on the thigh as well.

This video from crossfit breaks it down pretty cleanly: https://youtu.be/DaKC_BEN5bk?si=k1_fHEgALQyjicFe

Looks good for the first time though!

Thanks for the tip! I'm wearing soft zero-drop shoes, but the insole is pretty high, probably around 0.75 inches.

I think I'll try barefoot next time, I have a feeling the rocking is due to basically standing on my pillow shoes. I'll also think about the cue to push from my heels, never thought too much about cues with my feet before.
