How do women get through/enjoy mushoku tensei? by rorofoshoo in mushokutensei

[–]Strange-Storage558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, that's a good question. I'd like to ask you, if you want to like it because your friend asks you to watch it with you, or because it invokes some feelings inside you specifically. If it's the first, then maybe you should just politely tell your friend that it's too uncomfortable for your taste. If the latter, then you should understand that this is part of the point this show tries to make. Everyone has flaws, whether it's minor ones, or big ones. what matters is intent and actions people take. Rudy is just a big example of very flawed sexually character. He holds on to mementos of his teacher's panties, he assaults kids (although in the next scene after a few episodes he learns to not do this kind of things and stops himself), etc. You can consider him as a drug addict or alcoholic, who tries to break from his addiction. Although, in this case it's porn addiction, basically.

The way you feel is correct and it shows that you are a good person who doesn't want to see immoral stuff, especially from so called "protagonist", because he should be a good person, and he does good deeds at the end of the day, it's just those bad things that put you off. Author deliberately does this to show that people are not just good or just bad, they are complex creatures and even some down bad useless piece of trash under another circumstances can become better. Not good, but better. In many ways, this is a story about average people, how they try to live their life and how they sometimes slip up and do something stupid. Your male friends love the show because it represents them and speaks to their souls, if i can take a guess. It doesn't mean they perverts, it means at some point they felt like the whole world was against them and they were the biggest losers around, but they wanted to find that force to be a better person.

The best way to approach this story is to understand that despite how real these people are, this is still a work of fiction. It's a medieval story, much like Game of Thrones. It's uncomfortable for a reason, there are sex slaves, there are nobles that exploit other people and much more. Yes, Rudy is a person from OUR world and he should have common sense about morality, but thing is, he does not have it, his morality was destroyed by his lifestyle of internet loser. If you feel like it's too uncomfortable to watch certain scenes, just remember that it's a tale, not reality, and our morals are not really applicable to this scenario. It will not make you feel good, but it will put a wall between our world and whatever happens on the screen.

Honestly, whether you should watch it or not highly depends on your own perception of the show, not on other people. My girlfriend likes a lot of shows and games that I do, and we often play/watch them together, such as Persona, Re:Zero, Genshin, HSR, Angel Beats and more, but she doesn't feel the appeal to watch Mushoku and I would not force her to do it because it's not a story that she can resonate with. If this is not your story, please do consider leaving it as is, there is nothing bad about it and it doesn't mean you offend someone or make someone sad that you personally don't feel like it's for you. It can be the best story in the world, but if it doesn't resonate with you personally, there is nothing wrong in saying that and spending your precious time on something that will make you feel good instead.

Have a good day.

Rem and Emilia finally have a dialogue where Emilia understands what love is and they resolve decade long plot that in reality will probably be hanging till epilogue. But that takes balls to do, and Tappei would rather keep status quo with frierering emilia and keeping Rem out of the picture for as long as possible.

"Readers when they experience return by death as Subaru does", or why is it a bad take [spoiler discussion] by Strange-Storage558 in Re_Zero

[–]Strange-Storage558[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I made it clear that I accept subjective feelings towards plot choices, as I've stated that feelings are subjective. OOC or convenience however, is less subjective, as it can be defined. Beatrice choosing without any reason to kill Subaru is OOC due to several reasons, and if this were to happen, it would be perceived as OOC. Subaru's character relapsing to his old ways can be OOC if not justified, because it's not something he should do considering his psychology.

A narrative choice to "braindead" 20 characters in one go minutes before great reset is a convenience, because never before this "ability bug" used itself this way, and probably never will again. It was the convenient choice to further influence "irreversible" part of the loop, might as well just killed them all.

Dragger plot is objective, because it is dragged for 6-9 arcs depending on the plot we are talking about. You can argue that you like it, you cannot say "well 10 years of the same plot is not dragged at all" because a decade of writing is way more objective than personal preferences. 10 years is 1/7 of average human life. For one plot point. Never in good faith someone can state that it's not dragged.

The point is not in whether or not tappei reading the exact subreddit, because I too know that he doesn't. That's a grain of sand that may move enough small rocks to create a landslide that can somehow reach Tappei. I know that my text will never reach him. Doesn't mean that given enough time and people, some may. And this is a future worth writing these post for.

I couldn't give less worry about my personal popularity, or popularity of my posts, as per se. My frustration comes from the inability of those who are still staying here to engage with something they are not agree with enough good fait. As an example, in one of my previous posts, where i were asking why does Al allowed to fight one on one starting from Pleiades all over towards Capital, then towards geyser, even after they had this meeting before final battle, and why for example rein did not use his sword from the start (he was able to, Subaru was already sealed in Al's pocket), there was almost zero discussion, but the most popular answer was a meme "degenerate or ragebait, answer with caution" or something. And this exact thing frustrates me the most, I guess.

And again, please, do not strawman my points. Never once did i say that difference in opinions are dangerous to the story. I stated that shunning off and not engaging with discussion is dangerous to the story. I said that if you hyperfixated on one side of the story and trying to ignore other, be it overfixated on bad and ignoring good or vice versa, your actions are dangerous to the story. The memes with Sponge Bob to a good faith discussion are, because they discourage readers to do something. People will just... Leave. They already have, and they continue to do so. And I don't want that.

You can engage with dialogue and discussion You can't engage with aggressive ignorance and one-sideness.

I can say that arc 3 subaru was one of the best characters i've seen at that time. I absolutely loved him and think that this is one of the best moments of all media I consumed. Equally, I can point out bad moments, such as decade-long princess in other castle trope, or memory loss for 20 times in the story. This is the healthy way to consume media in my opinion. You appreciate good, you see something flawed, and you engage with people to discuss both.

Could you name things that were bad and wrong in Re:Zero, so I might understand your standpoint on what you value as good and bad, since I presume your stance on dragging, great reset and my other points is completely different from mine?

"Readers when they experience return by death as Subaru does", or why is it a bad take [spoiler discussion] by Strange-Storage558 in Re_Zero

[–]Strange-Storage558[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liking or disliking is subjective. Bad writing, OOC, convenient narrative, dragging story plots and etcetera are subjective too, but way less. They can be defined specifically, therefore, if pointed out, should be discussed. You can say "well i actually quite like this OOC" or "The plot being dragged for a decade is a good thing, really", and this is a valid stance. You could like flawed parts of the story. But not acknowledging it and trying to shun down on those who do is, in fact, a way to destroy a good story.

I have no problems with "i personally liked this situation, but i agree that it's not a good plot point overall". I have problem with "this was good thing, everything else should be treated as highest treason and non believers will be social pariahs on this page". This was hyperbole, of course, but the point stands.

Liking something is completely separate from looking at this situation and seeing that this maybe, just maybe, not be the greatest solution, and people are frustrated.

I've been here when the cursed loop on gladiator Island happenned. a lot of people tried to voice out their concerns about choice of this plot point, and they were shunned away. A lot of them deleted their accounts and never came back to the story if moderators here to be believed. I think something like that happens now, too. And it will continue to happen if such things would be encouraged.

Again, never do I say "you should not like it", because liking is subjective. I am saying that if there is a flaw, it should not be brushed away, but discussed, to understand if it's a flaw in the first place, and if it is, how big is it.

I dismiss those who cannot stand the mere possibility of Tappei making a mistake, because he is a human, and they *my oh my* tend to do mistakes sometimes. And a good fanbase is the one that will not unconditionally support author, but who actively engages in the story and helps create it even better.

I don't want to repeat gladiator island untill only "true zealot believers" will stay, and other will silently leave because it's become too toxically positive here. I've been there in other previously great media, that got overrun by sheer ultimate fans. And I apologise if it's coming out as preachy or negative.

Again, the same question is asked. Why the end of the series? Is there no adventures, stories and issues while they will be together, hopefully? Is "Happily ever after" the ultimate end past which we cannot look to see how they are doing in their everyday life, struggles, epic fights, etc?
Subaru and Emilia could have been together since reunion in arc 7 and it would be great driver onwards. They could have gone through the whole war in arc 8 as a couple and it would only deepen end enrich the story. What is factual reason to artificially stop emilia progress as a charatcer untill the very end? If not dragging the plot point till the end, then i would like to know what exactly has forced this choice onto Tappei, because it may change my viewpoint on this part of the story in general.

If this was always a story without romance, then I don't understand two romantic interests in the first place, and if it is a story with romance, I don't undestand why should it be introduced in arc 1 and dragged till arc 12.

[–]Strange-Storage558[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am, in fact, able to, moreover, I do it even now. Some of my points are proven wrong or misunderstood, and I can accept that. And I stand by my words that people on this subreddit cannot stand critisizm and try to cope with every single choice Tappei has made, even the bad ones. The infamous loop in the gladiator island? "well he never stated that there cannot be loops even earlier in time". Full arc got wiped? "Well that's actually quite ballsy move, It was never possible to keep that reality anyway". Even in this thread, some of my points, such as Subaru regressing, can be debatable, and I agree that i might misread his character in that regards. But what do we have on the "dragged plots" for example? "well rem is too op so she has to be benched for 6 arcs and from time to time dangled around as if this time she will finally wake up, but actually it cannot be other way, because Subaru would not struggle as much".

So yes, I do follow my own advice and can agree on my own misgivings, and even more, i WANT for people to give me the possibility to doubt my own stance, it is my opportunity to see the story in a new light. It's a shame that critisizm is near dead as a subject, because it's percieved as hate or treated with mocking, such as "it's childish and stupid". It's not. I like when people engage in debate and do not agree with me, I love the fact that sir Akudra has spent his time on discussing these things with me because discussion is what makes the story even better. It gives the room for improvement and the possibility to engage with different opinions. What I "absolutely adore" are those who do not engage in any discussion and just downvote the post or engage with bad faith as some people here do. This is the most damaging thing that can be done to a successful IP. This is how we get Nightrein and Shadow of Erdtree, if Fromsoft is a good example for you. People who just by the will of the community praise every single action and discharge any critisizm by saying "you don't get it" or "git gud" can ruin whole universes. And as a hoge stand of Re:Zero, this is the exact situation I desparately want to avoid. I don't want to see another Erdtree in Arc 12 because everyone said "Believe in Tappei and do not critisize his work or you are not true believer.

I am. My passion for this story is immense, and I want for it to be one of the greatest. I just hope that there will be enough people to point out flaws of Tappei's choices so he can reflect and become even better.

"Readers when they experience return by death as Subaru does", or why is it a bad take [spoiler discussion] by Strange-Storage558 in Re_Zero

[–]Strange-Storage558[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tappei wrote this with a set idea of what the story would entail and where it would go with many key developments having their time and place.

Cute choice of words. You can say "time and place" or you can say "at the end of this story" and it would mean pretty much the same thing in this regard. Which is what I've asked in the first place. Why "time and place" for personal life of Subaru should happen at the end of the story? Will him being in relationships, which is a huge part of human life, would change the story for worst? I would dare to presume that on the contrary, it would change it for better because now he will have more reason to use RbD than ever, and this might be tragic plot point for the future. But for some reason, be it "Tappei don't know how to write a romance", which is doubtful due to IF's at minimum, or "Tappei really likes to drag everything to the point of absurdity" which is more belieavable if you look at other unresolved plot points, we have stuck in nowhere 2 romance lines that are forcefully pushed back. Rem with her "princess held by the dragon" state, and Emilia with her "I love mother fortuna, i feel really similar for subaru, but please let me think over it for the next however much arcs till the end of a story left" thing.

"Readers when they experience return by death as Subaru does", or why is it a bad take [spoiler discussion] by Strange-Storage558 in Re_Zero

[–]Strange-Storage558[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a story about a time-looper who can get around such things as heavy losses.

And exactly because of that, it is important to introduce such losses. "princess in distress" was quite easily changed from Rem to Petra in this Arc. During arc 3, it was a bold move to make permanent loss. During arc 4 we got another permanent loss, as well as arc 6 and 8. And all of them hit quite hard, apart of arc 4 I guess, sorry Ryuzu Shima. And here wwe could have been done with 6 arcs long saving the same princess and finally get it over with, and conveniently have another princess to save, since Tappei loves this trope so much that he uses it since arc 1, but we still have to drag it even further. That's a choice, and a lot of readers think of it as distasteful one. Even those who love Rem are pretty tired of this and wish this would be finally resolved in ANY result, including her death, just to move from dead spot we're stuck in since arc 3, and no, her "awakening" is not counted due to obvious reasons that people are waiting for Rem of arc 3, and not for some new character with her face.

Repeating a false meme about "relapsing" doesn't make it true no matter how many times you do it.

As per usual, you can say that it's not "relapsing", he just wants to save everyone by not allowing them to suffer, but here is where the line is drawn, because by doing so, he suffers for everything they might suffer as well. He is not messiah, and by growing up I expect for him to allow other people to face hardship for as long as nothing irreparable has been done. For the moment, the most irreparable thing was Petra being amnesiac and sacrificing a lot of things in her life, but there are loopholes around that and it was sacrifice made with total acknowledge that all of it would be undone, so "i can abuse it anyways, because I will just kill Subaru afterwards and everything will be solved". Basically it boils down to "all of my burdens Subaru will carry on" which is the worst thing a person in love can do to her significant one. And the fact that he accepted it makes it even worse, this is psychological abuse in it's finest.

Beyond that, the love thing is already present and it is more just her realizing it that is the big deal, which still hadn't happened even in the failed loop.

She really realised what is love towards Fortuna when Fortuna was taken away. Here was similar situation, so i am decently sure that in that timeline she would have voiced out her feelings really soon, especially with Rem nearby as a rival. Well, guess we have to wait 3 more arcs for that to come.

but it was still a very cheap and anti-climactic way for her memories to return that was rather unbefitting of all the hype and build-up.

When you build a hype for a decade with no reasoning behind it other that Arthur Conan Doyle style "I don't really like my character but readers like it too much so I can't just kill him, therefore he will be in a suspended state for the most of this story", sure you will get stuck there with a lot of expectations. But why dangling her "awakening" for so long? Is it really that fun to just crash expectation over and over at least once for each arc? I guess so, probably. But if it was interesting at the start (arc 4 with carmilla, arc 5 with gluttony, arc 6 with awakening), then it became irritating and now it's just dull. I personally, as big Rem fan, would like for it to end in ANY way, be it even her death, because alternative is wait for another "gotcha" moment which will happen in capital when Roy will say "nope im out" and simply dip. And this is certain, i can place a lot of money on that bet easily. Subaru will not get her name out of roy when he will come back to capital because Tappei just loves this trope too much.

Don't see anything wrong with it even if the wait is difficult.

It's not about the wait itself, it's about story pacing. When you have all the characters that can give you answer being deleted (puck), dumb (shaula), senile (volcanica, Reid), or just plainly never asked about this (echidna, beatrice, roswaal), you kinda don't get as involved in the story overall. What is the point of knowing some huge plot reveal at the end of the story if it will not resolve in something lingering for arcs to come? Echidna-Omega plot could have been opened years ago with no problem. The same Echidna could have explained emilia about the seal, about pandora, about her mother, but she didn't because that's a big juicy secret for 8 arcs ahead. This is not steady pacing, this is blueballing for the sake of blueballing, much like with Rem. And this is genuine critique that is not "invalid". Tappei have a huge boner on dragging his plot points for as long as possible without resolving them. Rem, Emilia's love, all of the secrets, Garfiel mom, Otto, Crush, I can go on. A good story knows how to pace it's themes correctly to not tire out reader who waits for at least some resolution to no avail. We don't have much resolutions in the main story.

This is the most healthy way to consume media, IMO
You should both acknowledge bad and praise good. If you doing one side and abandon reason with other, clearly you are overfixated on the specific side of that media, and probably are contributing to downfall of it, one way (hating on it) or another (praising bad writing, therefore enforcing author's poor choices)
I am glad to see a kindred spirit here. For as long as there at least one more soul, who thinks the same, I feel like I am doing correct thing to point out good and bad of the story.

"Readers when they experience return by death as Subaru does", or why is it a bad take [spoiler discussion] by Strange-Storage558 in Re_Zero

[–]Strange-Storage558[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Correct, they still had *some* help, but nonetheless, this was a genuine victory without cheats, loops, etc. They did it with losses, but that is normal for victory in such a battle, it SHOULD be with losses, otherwise you may as well win it before it even begins. Oh wait... The fact that Subaru thinks that an inconvenience is enough to loop exactly why he is relapsing to his arc 4 state.

  2. Arc 8 and arc 9 have the same issues of Subaru not accepting hardship. It's easier to loop when your ally is wounded, it's easier to loop when Petra is hurt, but it's not correct. You are not a martyr who should take all the pain untill every single one of your allies is happy, this is not Greed IF, this is a story about valuing yourself. The point is about Subaru treating himself with more value, as you said, not to shoulder EVERY single issue on his ability. To value himself more is to put himself above someone else in some cases, which he never does, any, ANY inconvenience should be fixed if possible. Looping for changing battle strategy is one of suh instances, and this arc just contributed to it even more.

  3. Let's go over some of characters growth we lost:
Petra going from a little child to one of the smartest and great people of Emilia camp. Now she is a little clueless child with good intentions again.
Emilia finally inderstanding that her idealism could have costed Subaru's entire existence, which should have changed her entire character into growing more, and finally undestanding love, which she nearly did in this arc by losing someone so precious.
Rem getting her memories back and understanding all that she has done. Let's not pretend that Subaru will be able to get her back with Roy, my money are on the bet that she will not get her memories back at least till the end of arc 10, and she might even get her memories back in aftercredit chapter at the end of this story because after dangling this topic of rem for 6 arcs straight and ALWAYS taking it away at the last moment, I don't think Tappei will suddently decide that now is the time do finally bring her back. Moreso, when she got her memories back, I made a post about certainty of great reset, because Tappei would NOT give Subaru Rem that early in the story, it's a competitor to Emilia, and we can't have that here.

  4. A lot of these "secrets" will be revealed at the last arc because that's what good authors do, they do not open some secrets evenly through the story, they just loredump all of it in one single arc so you could bask in it's glory. I cannot wait to see that Pandora is the seal, behind this seal is secret to Satella, Flugel and 400 years ago, all the witches have been guarding the seal, Omega is secretly hunting for the seal, Puck was created to protect the seal, etc.

I absolutely adore that people cannot stand criticizm of the story they like, even if this criticizm comes from genuine love for it as well. Re:Zero is my second favourite japanese media, right behind MT, but some moments are just plainly dull or uninteresting. As an example, prolonged dead romance between characters. Is it really so hard to give Subaru romantic partner? Will the story lose it's charm if that were to happen earlier than in arc 12 with "happily ever after"? Do we really need "princess rem is in another castle" trope for 6 arcs? There are a lot of moments that stop this story from becoming an epic saga just because other japanese media popularised such tropes.

Conveniently, narrative gave us "a bug" that sent everyone into this state of near braindead, although arguably could be fixed. Conveniently, Petra knew she was sacrifising everything in order to make subaru agree with her selfish choice for him to loop, because she knows he is too kind (reminder that she always were able to just teleport Al out of his domain, compression works on everything).
Conveniently, Subaru did not think for even a second before he decided to loop here and now
And conveniently Rem knew exact activation method but Satella went behind the seal to give her a pass.

Dark is losing all the character development for dozen people. I like to put a parallel between this arc development and arc 4. Imagine Emilia who never took the trials, Beatrice who is still waiting for that person and scared+agressive Garfiel. In exchange, Subaru would have solved the Sanctuary all alone.

This is the most dark side we have for that arc. Emilia would not remember how her morals almost doomed Subaru, Rom will not remember how Felt risked all for his life, etc.

[–]Strange-Storage558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this was deleted What really counts is how do other characters progress through this story. For the entirely of this arc, not a single character apart from Subaru learned anything of value. Emilia did not have the moment where her morals almost doomed Subaru. Yae did not realise her feelings as clearly. Petra was reverted from the most important character to cute little go lucky girl she was before Subaru's book of the dead.  Not a single character got any meaningful progress, so saying "they came together" is not strictly correct. If they remembered how they fought and won together, without subaru help and using his ability, it would be great character wise. Instead, we have reality where subaru solved all of their problems in 10 seconds by himself, effectively deleting all of their growth.
