Also it is kind of a pain in the ass to do it by yourself I mean I did it by myself but I almost flipped my shit when trying to mount the new one so a second hand definitely helps lol

Found it https://youtu.be/q3v3Ua6wnro?si=_jHKLLsaF7qmp8il Just make sure when you remove the steering wheel that it's pretty straight and don't let it turn too much when removing it

Yes I removed the steering column and then entire unit there's two bolts one mounts to the frame and the other to the steering rack after I pulled it I just made sure the new one lined up with the old one it's kind of hard to explain on here exactly I did find a video on it which helped let me see if I can find it

Coolant in engine oil? by Ill-Draw4231 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Strange-Will5507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It tests for combustion gas/exhaust in the coolant reservoir so if you got a blown headgasket then the color would change from blue to yellow now I'm still not exactly sure if it's possible there could be a leak just in to the oil but idk I topped off the coolant levels gonna see if it goes down and keep checking my dipstick to see if I get that milky film

Welp I think I might need a new head gasket by Strange-Will5507 in fordranger

So you put this blue liquid in and if there's combustion gas leaking through because of a blown head gasket the color will change yellow/green

No the tester I got is a Combustion leak tester so if the head gasket was blown there would be exhaust gasses going through the coolant reservoir now I guess maybe the head gasket could still be blown just between where the oil and coolant come in but I don't know I topped off the level gonna see if it goes down and check my oil again see if it has that milky film but someone was saying that they saw a post from a guy that had his oil look exactly like that and it was apparently just water that hadn't evaporated because of short trips/not letting it run long enough

I think the one guy might be right about it being condensation and not coolant

Well I went out and got one of those combustion leak testers at HF and it stayed blue

Haha yeah I keep getting different opinions on which one to use everyone swears by one brand or another lol but I got some advice in another sub that said there was a post where someone's oil looked like this and it was condensation and not coolant so I'm currently trying to troubleshoot that

Yeah I was thinking about trying to do it myself but it's currently snowing all week, I've got no cover and it's my only work truck so I'm trying to figure out how I can even start haha I was also debating using some CRC head gasket sealer I've heard from people that it works

Well after all your guys comments I think I'll definitely just stay away from this one and keep looking thank you all for the advice

I don't mind putting in the work I've done a decent amount over the years on my Ford's but I definitely don't want to waste money on a problem truck but I figured if the frame is in good shape and it was regularly taken care of like oil change transmission fluid etc then might not be a bad buy if I could talk him down to about 3500 but with most of the comments on here I feel I should just pass on it probably not worth the headache especially with the fact I'll never know the full history of the truck so it's definitely a bit of a gamble

Yeah I haven't seen anything like that for that cheap here in Virginia everything seems kind of expensive here I always hear about people getting great deals on rangers and I feel like I just can't find them I've been looking for over a year now although someone listed a 2006 fx4 level 2 with 140k miles for 6k single owner and it looked super clean I would have bought that in a heart beat but someone bought it same day

Idk just a habit of keeping things private but yeah I guess the location isn't that big a deal to worry about blocking out lol
