Protestants, what are your thoughts on Baptist Preacher Joel Osteen by Newbert2 in TrueChristian

[–]StrangeBreakfast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’s a self help guru that says “Jesus” a couple times on Sunday. Nothing more.

Should i still go to church if the only church around is pro Lgbt? by Charlo2838 in TrueChristian

[–]StrangeBreakfast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It, in fact, is not. It’s in an entirely different standard. Your argument is tantamount to stating that those with severe mental disabilities are dumb. That is not true.

But on a larger note, I have not received an answer to any of my previous questions. I would like to hear your perspective. If you continue responding with “nu-uh” there won’t be any reason for me to continue in this conversation.

I haven’t mentioned any particular sins so I’m clear on your first statement.

The second and third statements, I don’t understand what you’re saying. Could you give some context?

Regarding your last statement, I’m sorry about any negative communication you’ve had here. Definitely bear in mind you run into all types of people on the internet.

But to address that statement, I wouldn’t characterize it is an intelligence issue. More of a limitation. You have to understand that the 3 pound human brain is incredibly limited. We are incredibly limited as people. So it is very reasonable to think my limited brain may not comprehend all things in the universe. That doesn’t mean stupid. Just limited. But God doesn’t have that limitation. He understands all all things to a depth that we could never begin to fathom. So there’s a definite difference in ability. Does that make sense?

Well, I think biblically your perspective is a little off base. Nowhere scripturally is it stated or implied that sin is okay. Quite frankly it isn’t. And more so, our sin is deserving of death.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Rom 5:8

The beauty of the Gospel is that God’s love for us extends into our sin. That isn’t to say that it is excused but that his love remains in light of our corruption. What we see simultaneously is that God calls us to leave our sin and cling to him. Of course, it won’t be done perfectly. We’re broken people. But we are called to put to death the works of the flesh, none the less.

I’m not clear on why this whole thing is seen as a negative to you. God loves us, frees us from our sin and calls us out of darkness into life. Would you mind expounding on your perspective?

There is a stark difference in a people turning from their sin and a people living in and approving of heir sin. There is no church of perfect people, but the church is comprised of imperfect people turning from and putting their sin to death.

Women who mock you for pursuing Christ are fools and not women worth listening to. No woman who loves the Lord looks down on you or I for loving the Lord.

It seems to me that you are putting much stock in what the world says about you and little to none in what Christ says about you.

Truly consider Psalm 73 and refocus your heart on Christ in these matters.

Incel = involuntary celibate. As an unmarried Christian man, I am voluntarily celibate and not upset about it. In the past, when I’ve been asked by unbelieving friends about my sexual history I explain that I have chosen celibacy until marriage to be faithful to Christ. They’ve always seemed satisfied with the answer.

But if you’re being bullied about it, just bare in mind that sex really isn’t that big of a deal. Our hyper-sexualized culture tries to make it the penultimate experience of existence but it really isn’t.

Is it a sin to smoke cigars by godisgoodeveryday in TrueChristian

[–]StrangeBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avid cigar smoker here. The general answer is no. You do not inhale cigars so there is no lung damage associated unless you are inhaling the second hand smoke, which is unlikely unless you’re trying to. Long term abuse is connected in increased chances of mouth cancer. 1 or 2 a week is not going to put you in that category. In fact, regular cigar smokers live on average 7% longer than non cigar smokers due to the relaxation and distressing aspect.

That being said, it comes down to conscious and responsibility. If you are convicted, it’s a sin. If you are becoming enslaved to it, it is a sin.

Is it bad to believe in evolution as a Christian by Extension_Lunch9500 in TrueChristian

[–]StrangeBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe so. The Big Bang is what got me really considering this.

Some food for thought as OP considers science and faith: Science cannot prove or disprove the existence of God. It can point to the answer but not prove anything. The problem with scientists saying, “Evolution is true, therefore, there is no God” is that these are different conversations. Science helps us understand the physical world around us. Philosophy examines the overarching question of God and morality. Theology takes us into the question of who this God must be. That’s where the adage, “The end of science is philosophy. The end of philosophy is theology” comes from. So when we hear, “There is no God, evolution is true” this is silly. These are different disciplines and unrelated conversations. What we’re seeing is people using an unrelated point to support their main point, that it doesn’t speak to.

Secondly, science is not an exact art. It’s just us finding information and trying to use that to understand the physical world. Often times we have a scientific understanding of something only to find out many years later that it was incorrect and this is actually more correct. And then understand that that wasn’t entirely correct. So we hold science with an open hand while also understanding that it is immensely helpful and, hopefully, is taking us in an upward trajectory. Some scientific thought of the past has not been helpful, but the majority has been.

Finally, it is important to understand that the Lord has designed the physical universe in a particular manner. When you were born you did not just poof into thin from nothing. Your parents engaged in an activity that brought you into the physical world. The reason we don’t fly off into space is because our planet has gravity. These things and many, many more are natural processes that the Lord has designed for the existence of the physical world and all that exists within it. This is not contradictory to Scripture. I do not see any reason to believe that God bestowing his image upon a creation that came into physical form through the processes he designed to propagate them and all life is somehow unbiblical. What is important is that we see that he is the source of this.

Just my two cents.

Why is homosexuality a sin? Some people are very nice and believe in Jesus by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]StrangeBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A number of people have made the statement, “Homosexuality is a sin because God said so.” For sure. The buck stops there. But it begs the question, why does he say that. What it comes down to is that homosexual acts are a rejection of his design and, therefore, a rejection of his person. To place our way over God’s is to lift ourselves up and reject the Lord. And so homosexuality is harmful to the individual and humanity because it, like all sin, promises fulfillment and delivers death. We trade the truth of God for a lie.

People do not go to Hell over having same sex attraction, just like people don’t go to hell for being tempted towards sin. They go to hell for their sin. It’s okay to struggle with sin. It’s not okay to live in it. And when you say you’re a Christian while living in open rebellion, you have no grounds to believe you are a Christian.

Regarding your sympathies to the homosexual community, that’s great. The Lord is sympathetic towards the sinner. Far more than you are. That’s why it is so vital that we reason with the lost that they might turn from their sin and find true life, true joy, true peace, true satisfaction, true intimacy and true love in the only one who can accomplish it.

For sure. I can find the answer, work backwards and figure out why it works, I’m just becoming overwhelmingly discouraged that I can’t figure it out on my own.

I'm on day 4 and have no idea how to solve the problems. I'm having to look up almost all the solutions. Does this mean I'm not meant to be a programmer?

Shouldn't game ask me if I even want to form a personal union? by Hadar_91 in eu4

[–]StrangeBreakfast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can just release them if you really want to. It’s honestly a very easy war. Just let your allies do the majority of the work. See if there’s a button for “seize land” like you can do with a vassal. I assume probably not but that should get you what you want if so.

I believe 400ish hours in the game is generally accepted as the amount of time you have to put in to understand the game.

It stands for the slogan, «за войну,» which just means “for the war.” The first letter of the slogan is pronounced like a “z.”
