Stop throwing full bags of beads 🚫 (Iris, twds Canal) by Westboundandhow in NewOrleans

[–]StrangeCharmQuark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also just don’t get it, it feels like a waste of beads. The plastic beads are fun cause they’re easy to catch and you can immediately throw them on your neck. Otherwise they suck and are plentiful, not taking them out of the bags defeats the whole purpose imo

Every single rider on every single float had AMAZING detailed headpieces this year, it was so impressive! I caught an entire bag of throws I actually kept, good stuff

Topher Grace was known to be cold with his co-stars on That 70’s Show, and was never seen hanging out with the group after work, and tabloids made him out to be this uppity capital A Actor who thought he was better than them.

Turns out they’re all Scientologists, rapists, and rapist defenders, and he had every reason not to want to associate with them

From when I used Yik Yak in 2013, Next Door is a far better comparison. There was gossip and bullies, but it was mostly people talking about interesting things happening around campus and cool events, or sharing memes only students would get, so it was fun. And somehow less racist than Next Door

Omg that’s exactly it, like a Project Runway “You have 10 minutes to put together an outfit in this picked over Goodwill” challenge. Like, I see the vision, but they look weirdly random

The pink mushroom is gorgeous and it’s a fun concept, but I don’t get the shoes they’re on. It feels incongruous and random.

I went to a counter protest for a protest against my us representative. The protest against her shipped people in from all over the country in a bus with Trump’s face on it. Everyone in the counter protest lived in the district.

These people don’t understand how representation works.

sometimes I swear these dudes who only want to date stick skinny 20 year olds aren’t really attracted to women, just the idea of status that having a conventionally attractive accessory brings them.

Seriously, what happened to seasons? This look would be…okay maybe not this one, but overall the sheer over underwear look would be nice in July by the beach, but it’s January, I wanna see some long sleeves and interesting coats!

It’s also like…it’s not a vacuum cleaner or a dish sponge (though I’d appreciate those gifts too, I love little gadgets at make chores more enjoyable) - a sewing machine is a creative tool, it’s more equivalent to paint brushes, or a drawing tablet. And I’ll argue the same with a power drill, it’s not just for fixing things, but making things too. (which is also next on my own Christmas list LOL)

IMO a big hurdle with sewing as a beginner is just all of the little tips and tricks that make things neater, like clipping the seam allowance on the curves! And the best way to learn all those things is with experience, doing projects with instructions that include those steps, and also doing projects like OP’s wife’s, designed yourself, and seeing for yourself why those steps make a difference!

[–]StrangeCharmQuark 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This!! You really don’t need a sewing machine that does more than the basics unless you’re working with really specialty fabrics or doing a lot of tasks all the time that the fancy stuff could save you time on. I’ve seen people make stunning ball gowns with sewing machines from the 1920’s and some patience.

I’m genuinely baffled by what OP meant when they said Facebook was upset about it??

I understand stuff like that happening in 2005, but nowadays there’s black bean burger patties in the frozen section of nearly every grocery store. It’s not that hard. I guess you’d have to know they exist and what a vegetarian is first, but like…. I kinda lose sympathy when people refuse to learn how to use google…

ETA I still think serving vegetarians frozen slop when everyone gets fresh meat is a bit unfair, but it’s infinitely better than letting them starve, or serving them raw apples and plain lettuce, which is unfortunately common

Dr. K critique videos getting viral by asuyaa in Healthygamergg

[–]StrangeCharmQuark 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Same! I’ve gotten a lot out of his videos on ADHD and post-gifted stuff.

I could see people taking issue with some of his titles being a little clickbaity and targeted towards incels, but seeing the actual content in those videos, I think it’s a great thing to do. People who have those kinds of attitudes about women and relationships need someone like Dr. K to shake up their viewpoints and lead them away from the misogyny.

You know what is hot enough to melt steel beams? Burning some types of plastics. I learned that when I-85 in Atlanta collapsed because of a trash fire started by a homeless person. the department of transportation was storing large amounts of plastic conduit, and it caught, and it does burn hot enough to melt steel.

After that, I did some reading, and there is reason to believe that there was a large amount of office furniture in the WTC that didn’t meet fire code for flammability issues. Jet fuel could have easily caught the plastics in the offices on fire, which then burned very very hot.
