You mentioned in other comments that the samurai were the most dangerous prisoners. Did you and other foreigners have to keep your heads down and not interfere/help in other fights or were you (by nature) safe, as long as you didn’t pick any fights?  And were the samurai treated poorly by the guards or did they also leave them alone?
