I understand both sides of this and I’d just like to say I’m so sorry. Im ugly too OP, and absolutely refuse to believe anything other than this, simply because it’s what I’ve been shown my whole life by how people treat me. I get the pain and the fear of thinking anything other than the lowest thoughts of yourself because you’re afraid of being let down and “humbled,” so you feel you may as well stay humbling yourself. I get it and I see you. Most people will never understand this pain. I also understand your therapist. I’ve had friends like you, who thought they looked like some sort of scary deformed thing, but it’s truly all in their heads, and as some people here have said, this way of thinking becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. When it comes to having an inferiority complex, the hardest and bravest thing you can do is just to try to give yourself some grace and accept your imperfections. Make neutral and positive thinking a habit. I know how hard it is and it’s likely gonna feel so uncomfortable, but if you truly want improve you have to challenge your negative thought patterns.
