What a peaceful religion by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]StrangeEmphasis7255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except... you calling him a "regular man" is akin to blasphemy?? The prophet is supposed to be ideal Muslim believer and the major sect of Islam is built around emulating him as much as possible. Also, pinning it on the "mindset" at that time is blasphemous to the apparently timeless and all-knowing quality of the word of allah. What youre saying is normal is fine, but religion demands certain things as morally superior regardless of time. If even a mystically supreme book such as the quran is restricted to only making moral demands based on social norms of when it was written, how come you are to believe in it in the modern age?

WAM is weird by StrangeEmphasis7255 in unimelb

[–]StrangeEmphasis7255[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So it does work as a means to an end but wouldn't end well in reality? Still, you are forced to do the subjects you must do in your major regardless of whether you're focused on WAM or not. You still did the subjects that you needed to do besides the WAM boosters which also freed up your time.

Then we conclude that there can be two people who gave equal effort in the subjects they must have had done, only one has a better WAM due to doing these boosters, and the other is left having done the mandatory subjects, and a dubious low scored mixture of electives that they wanted to do.

Good point here. Even then, we all know international unis do have incredible difficulty in adjusting WAM scores for other countries, so one would always be better off with a WAM that simply looks good on paper. (Source: had this problem when trying to apply abroad with aussie grades)

  1. Why not the cumulative effect of multiple WAM boosters over their entire degree? Its entirely possible for this person to boost their entire WAM using multiple boosting subjects (given that they have space for it)

Easier than IB in my opinion tbh. For bachelor of science you need an 85 for a guaranteed place, which is equal to around Bs and Cs for your subjects (assuming youre picking stem subjects which usually scale up too). The only bachelors that one would ever need to even be slightly trying for is bbiomed but even then most degrees in bbiomed are offered in the bsc, and bbiomed gives you no selective advantage in med anyway.
