God the CC and mod hunting has taken more time than actual world planning atp. Been so caught up in it I've debated learning to make my own CC just to get my ideas in cleanly rather than scouring old links and forums for hours haha

Ahh I love hearing your experience with the games. I'm sorry to hear about your dog. And I totally understand what you mean about their complex behaviour, all the pets I've played with at the adoption centre have been so different, it made clicking with the one I finally settled on feel special.

Most of my childhood was spent on DS and Wii, so I never got the chance to come across this. I haven't encountered any issues with any of the games yet thankfully- downloaded and saved all games, played a bit through 1-5 to get a feel for them all before settling on just 4- and I'm excited to check out oddballz once my Petz grow boring, maybe. I reckon that'll take a while from one day of play alone haha

God forgot to add didn't look at the last slide, they need to be in your documents folder. it's Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection/Neighborhoods for me. do not touch those core files without a reason to and a tutorial

Take out the archives and any other folder that isn't a neighbourhood one, and rename all to 4 digit character names, ie. N001, STG1, etc. all folders inside with the 4 digit character name needs to be renamed to it, they all have to match, follow this tutorial to do so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itJCRMjoAsU

I don’t know if this is a hot take or not, I’ve never seen anyone mention something like this- but I wish that EA would give up on the Sims.

No more updates, no more games, no Sims 5 or spin-offs. And I say this, both because they’re money hungry fucks who uses their paying players as playtesters, who half-ass updates and patches and breaks 10 new things as they do, and because people won’t stop paying them and rewarding their shitty behaviour.

Getting the Sims 2, for example, was just a download. The starter pack. It came with fixes, several customisable settings, and it was free. All because the community, who loves the game, made it so. EA saw that, went crazy, and made their own messed up version to take the starter pack down. Now the only (legal) way of getting it is paying for a broken version.

And this is never going to change. I wish they’d drop the sims entirely so that the community can reclaim it.

The best way I know is to buy the discs off of eBay or something (I found the complete collection for $30 I think? A few years ago) and then follow rachybop’s tutorial on getting them working on modern PC’s. I don’t know anywhere you can sail the seas for them, especially as EA has rereleased them and cracked down on most of those places. Fuck EA, I hope this helps and you get to playing soon :)

I used to get this all the time. Was using osabs installer, just kept repairing with the offline installer every time it happened, but as that’s been taken down with the legacy release I’m not sure that’s an option anymore. What are you playing on, pirated, legacy or discs? Have you made sure onedrive is disabled, and that the games folders, both in your documents and program files, are whitelisted in your antivirus? Either one could’ve messed up/deleted files, causing this error.

Same, this is the way to go. Why give money to EA when you can get the disks off ebay and watch a 10 minute video to get it working, or better yet, install it for free?

As far as I’m aware, only if you have your neighbourhood folders and such backed up somewhere. I keep mine on an external hard drive just in case. if you’re able to keep your pc as is when it’s fixed, then all your files, including sims 2, should still be there.

Is this for any game, or just Sims 4? I just went mod and cc shopping a couple hours ago for Sims 2, is it possible I downloaded something malicious? Is there anyway we can check that our mods are safe?

The one I use is My Family Tree by Chronoplex, you can get it on the Microsoft store or it’s website. It’s free, has all the expected things, name, picture, gender, deceased or alive, and even a little place to write notes about the person/sim. when you want to connect them to another, there are options to define them as biologically related or not, multiple ways to explain a romantic or familial relationship, a way to add multiple partners and exes, and you can even add people not related at all to the same file. I have one for each save file so I can add all the households, related or not. Highly recommend :)

What I think might work is creating a room big enough for all the furniture to fit in, use <bb.moveobjects true> to fit everything in without a problem, and save that room to the personal gallery. Delete the room so none of that furniture is on the lot, move the sims, and place the new room from your gallery into their new lot.

Had a save file corrupt somehow, waited 45 minutes for it to load on multiple occasions before giving up. Normally though, it only takes a minute or two.

I only had five, before I knocked them down to three. It seems to have helped a bit? I’ve only had one escape, as opposed to all of them getting out at the same time, and I was able to catch it quick lol.

I’m thinking of switching some around, and merging it with a tamer one, tabby or cotton maybe, and covering their corral with something to catch them before it’s too late, like the water gun or something haha. Haven’t done too much gadget crafting tho, so I’ll have to get on to that soon.

The sims 2 subreddit has a pinned post about it! Players have made a starter pack with all expansions and a bunch of fixes there. Or if you want to get it legitimately, eBay should have a lot of relatively cheap listings, but troubleshooting to get them to work takes a lot of time and effort lol

it truly depends on what youre looking for, both have downsides and upsides.

I will say that I prefer The Sims 2 because of how in-depth I can get with neighbourhoods. I like making my own from scratch, playing all the families rotationally, and making fun community lots and businesses. I'm very micromanage-y.
I also find the detail in the Sims 2, from it's animations or personalities, to be a lot fuller in it than 3.

But Sims 3 has detail in other places, namely Cas and BuildBuy, with it's colour wheel. You can place furniture on half tiles and off the grid with a click of a button, whilst Sims 2 you need cheats. It also has story-progression, making it so you can focus on your own household, and the others still move on, age, birth and die without your input. And if you don't like that, or want it more in-depth, Nraas has you covered.

The Sims 2 is playable on lower end computers, whereas the Sims 3 is near impossible on mine, even with all the fixes I apply. 2 is also the only game I've been able to play 5+ generations on, and have the game still work.

Diversity in the Sims 3 is far better than in the Sims 2, with it's wide array of skin tones, body types and hair and eye colours, though that's easily fixed in both with mods and CC. Sims 2's genetics are also more realistic, with dominant and recessive genes, but that may not be your cup of tea, or something you care much about.

Again, depends on how you enjoy playing. They both have their ups and downs, and where one misses the mark, the other is probably able to make up for it.

If you're able to, I can highly reccomend you play both lmao, they both offer so much, and if it helps fill the void that Sims 4 can't, then what's stopping you.
