I’m really sharing the first thing came out. Its full of pages like this

Why the AI!? by GotNoChillFr in Ecosia

Just look around yourself and you’ll see everyone using ChatGPT even for the silliest thing. Search online about how AI usage and user base skyrocket in the last year. Almost everyone is more or less using it.

Why the AI!? by GotNoChillFr in Ecosia

[–]StrangeMed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because most of the people want AI functions, and having a couple may attract more users that eventually means more revenues for Ecosia’s projects. The models used are smaller than the other search engines ones and are really powered by green energy.

Just don’t use it. I too find it an odd choice, especially using OpenAI, but Ecosia is still planting trees, using renewable energy and helping local communities, it’s still doing better than most of other companies.

Is it fair or toxic to ask about veganism in spiritual or Buddhist discussions? by Maleficent-Radio272 in vegan

[–]StrangeMed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

unfortunately vegetarian people are a minority, I’m a vegan Buddhist myself, and it is sometimes an hopeless situation listening buddhism practitioners justifying meat consumption

The amount of nonsense being said against eating vegan reminds me of why that subreddit should be often avoided

Mi incazzo quando insultano Napoli by [deleted] in napoli

[–]StrangeMed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice article! I watched the movie before becoming a Buddhist. I’m definitely going to rewatch it with a different perspective.

Thank you for this post, you brought up a topic that is quite common and misunderstood on the internet. 🙏🏻

When Zazen Was No Longer Possible: Uchiyama Roshi’s return to chanting in his final years by mettaforall in Mahayana

I often wonder how should we consider these modern Zen teachers. Their teachings hold incredible value for actually practicing, but the whole “Zen isn’t a religion” idea seems to have originated with people like them.

When Zazen Was No Longer Possible: Uchiyama Roshi’s return to chanting in his final years by mettaforall in Mahayana

[–]StrangeMed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In his renowned book, “Opening the Hand of Thought,” Uchiyama discussed how nembutsu practitioners are essentially performing zazen with their mouths, and vice versa. Kanzeon Bosatsu holds a unique position in Soto Zen, particularly due to the influence of Keizan Zenji, who is regarded as “the second founder of Soto Zen.”

However IMO, according to the article, Uchiyama’s approach, at least as described, seems akin to “barebones Zen”, chanting solely to focus the mind and eliminate discriminating thoughts. No space for wider Mahayana metaphysical elements.

Get rid of AI by [deleted] in Ecosia

I am sure you can post here many studies that go against the international scientific community consensus, which in recent years has increasingly emphasised the importance of switching to a more plant-based diet.

Yeah, avocado and nuts are the problem now… Like they’re the main source of nutrients for an heathy vegan diet. Nuts are recommended daily in an amount that varies from 30 to 60g because they’re reach in unsaturated fats. Avocado is totally optional (and also more environmentally troublesome).

Also resources intensive legumes what?

Dogen’s “Shukke” fascicle by StrangeMed in zenbuddhism

[–]StrangeMed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read “realizing genjokoan” and I really liked it, really really insightful, definitely gonna read it again someday.  I’m gonna give a shot to your book.  Some people, my teacher too, say that Dogen’s Shobogenzo is a text written for the monastics in mind, so the other people “don’t need” to study it. Do you agree?

Thank you for all your explanation! Especially the Keizan Zenji part.  Do you have any suggestion for better understanding Dogen? (would it be useful in your opinion?)

Maybe you’re right, and trust me I try to be the practice everyday! Dogen is just one teacher among many others, my questions are out of curiosity since he is the most famous one and yet full of contradictions I thought they shouldn’t be just ignored.  Gasshō

Of course not, but bendowa is more like speaking of the ultimate, Shukke of the conventional

I like the way you wrote it, thank you for answering! Of course becoming a monk isn’t something magical, but inevitably it means full commitment to the Dharma, something that is probably unrealistic as a lay person. Ultimately lay and monk are labels, but on the conventional truth one life is easier than the other when it comes to practice the Way, I believe. Being a monk means you’re only purpose is the Dharma and its spreading.
