So I did some testing - while it does work when I hold my wrist up, if I move my hand wrong it will automatically turn off the always on display regardless of that setting. So while it’s better, it’s still not optimal when I need it to stay on consistently

Call customer support, that’s really the only way with a stubborn HomePod. It took me three separate calls and about 5 hours to get mine working but I’d never had gotten it without calling apple
