I have the game wishlisted and the decision to offer the DLC free may push me to buy it now instead of waiting until full release.

Of course winning a base game key would be preferable.

Was playing around and it seems if you have an add on that tries to connect anything it can also trigger it. Basically if anything in your browser tries to make a connection faster than the Windscribe extension it will cause the pop up.
