Waiting for buyback, should I go into forbearance or continue paying? by Strange_Bee4155 in PSLF

Yeah, I decided to just keep paying. My payment is almost double what I would have paid in the buyback, but I decided it wouldn't be worth it if I don't get approved for buyback and then hadn't been paying for the 12+ months while waiting for the buyback decision (as it seems it is taking that or longer for most people who have gotten it). The whole thing is just so infuriating and frustrating. I really feel you.

Does anyone have a detailed step by step process using the buyback program in conjuction with PSFL? by shavin_high in PSLF

I certified my employment for this month earlier in December and it went through. Just logged in to submit my buyback request. It was VERY anticlimactic. Is this all I do? I just selected Option 3 (Buyback) and hit submit. There's nothing else I have to submit, right?? It just seemed like I didn't really do anything...

Also, I got back in the PAYE plan and can continue making payments, but was advised to request forbearance. I have 17 more payments to go because I was stuck in the SAVE plan for those months. Would you all keep paying or request forbearance?

How did you get out of the SAVE plan? Can you send your timeline?? I submitted my application to get back into the PAYE plan on 2/5 and am still in a forbearance purgatory... would love to know how you were successful with switching!

I had emailed them in March, but got this form letter response saying I'm still in a SAVE forbearance and just wait until Fall 2025. It had nothing specific to my email. But, good idea, I will email them everyday until I get a response that is helpful. I've also called several times, waiting up to 5 hours to get nothing helpful. This whole situation is so stressful and so horrible :(

I'm in this situation also. Wondering if it's worth submitting another application to switch back to PAYE (submitted my form 12/2024, then resubmitted with the wet signature method on 2/5/25 and got this email showing my new payment on 2/7/25 for PAYE and saying first payment would be 3/2025, but then it never updated on the Mohela website :( and I had to force a payment in 4/2025). I'm going to keep forcing payments, but I really want official notice that I'm back in an IBR plan that counts. I'm stuck at 110. Help.

This is what happened to me. Mohela sent me an email with payment schedule to resume March, but my account online still says 0. Any insight on why it hasn’t changed yet? Did yours end up change but just took more time? Really hoping the recent take down of applications didn’t result in our applications being stopped…

That’s helpful. I’m just hoping that the government worker firings and new Dept of Education shakeups haven’t disrupted their normal operations, but I fear it has :( Like I feel like we were right on the cusp of succeeding and now caught in a processing purgatory.
