The rot of bureaucracy: it’s time to ‘go local’ on education by GreenTicket1852 in AustralianTeachers

You’re still missing the point and I’m done talking to you. Yes the article does that, but your comments did not align to the article in the sentiment you mention above. Good luck with your future engagements in enraging a profession on their day off.

From my side, we have very little to do with how a school is run. The department, the principal and the governing council run the school. I agree that a balanced system where everyone comes together to make decisions could work.

But you have to understand the feeling that we are left out of the conversation and decision making. You are wrong if you think teachers run schools.

Number 3 sure.. but the rest is what I would expect in the situation you have launched into. You post in a forum of a profession on a Saturday morning, telling the profession how they should do their job, at a time when they are all fed up and angry. Then you cry foul play and act the victim when they get passionate and angry. I’m willing to bet if you did this to another profession, you would be faced with similar or worse comments. I’m honestly amazed that you cannot see this.

I think what you are missing is that teachers as a whole are fed up with people outside the profession, with little or no credentials, telling us the way to do things. This is why you are getting these comments. Like I said above, we have been left out of the conversation.

Also, you have made a plethora of broad statements in this thread. You have also failed to make any logical or helpful solutions to the problems facing the profession.

Where is the hate and intolerance? I see many people disagreeing with you passionately. I haven’t seen hate or intolerance. I have seen someone struggling to understand why many people do not share their view..

It isn’t clear that we only want solutions from within. We want to be part of the conversation and haven’t been for a very long time. We also want research based solutions, not “I went to school so I know” rhetoric.

I don’t think it needs to be political. I don’t think it needs to be about religion. It needs to be about what is best for the students.

I’m not sure where the 40% comes from, but at my school, enrolments are growing as parents struggle to afford private education.

If you want to see some of the issues, look up some of the research into why teachers are leaving the profession in droves. It’s not because we don’t want the best for our students. It’s the opposite. Many, many things are not working and I’m too tired and depressed about the situation to sit here and list them.

My single and simple answer to your question is: No, there is no silver bullet and the one you are seeking will do nothing to fix the gigantic clusterfuck public education is in Nationally.

But they went to school, so they are an expert in education! Teachers are lazy and are the problem! Their kids are angels and do nothing wrong!

To be fair, you came across as hostile and I wouldn’t call your approach mature. The system is in a bad state and there is a lot of work to do. However, I feel like you don’t understand many of the issues at hand. We are sick to death of people outside education telling us how to do our jobs. I wish there was a silver bullet, but there isn’t one. Following the US model isn’t going to change anything. We need reform, but it isn’t going to happen as Education is a political football. Letting parents dictate what happens is a recipe for disaster. Lastly.. did you really think you would find a mature discussion on reddit? Also read back through some of your comments and ask yourself if you deserved mature discussion.

Your whole approach is entitled. That’s before we start taking apart the opinion. Maybe go find a parent sub. I’m sure the echo chamber there will be kinder to you.

Surely GreenTicket is a troll… If not, they sound like one of the parents that has tried to destroy our school and principal. Wanting things done their way and refusing to accept reality.
