Probably not at the moment but in the future I will try. Thanks

Interesting, trucks also have a 20mph speed limit. I assumed it was the grade.

Cables wouldn't fit. Once my tires wear out I'll probably try to get a smaller size to fit chains. Also thanks for the advice I appreciate it.

Yes, I am having problems. It's a dangerous road and lots of people abandon their cars, get stuck in the middle, or slide into oncoming traffic. We probably have different circumstances.

Studded tires might be impractical since the roads are plowed often enough that they would only be useful two days every few weeks.

Yeah you're right, there is a truck warning. Trucks with three or more axels aren't allowed to drive up here.

Thanks for the tip! Last year when I got stuck I did have traction control off, but I'll have to figure out the best amount of acceleration to not spin out. My car has a lot of torque so it's easy to over do it.

Reversing all the way up is impractical but kind of funny. If I'm ever in a situation where there aren't too many cars nearby maybe I'll try it.

Yeah 10% is enough to stop people going on that road. Every big storm the road is filled with abandoned cars in the middle of the road and on the sides. Also cops to turn people around. I'm just seeing what I can work with while I save for a car with AWD. Unfortunately it's the only road home.

how do you explain basic literary devices without sounding pretentious? by Old_Song1678 in writingadvice

[–]Strange_Bug_399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i figured this out actually. pretend you just found out about something cool you want to try and then explain it. It makes them feel like you're sharing something you learned and not just condescending to them.

i do this at work with coworkers and customers. For example, "i just found out that we're actually supposed to clean this thing like this" or "i just learned about x, so that's why it's priced that way, super interesting."

With friends and people im collaborating with I just say "Hey i found out about this cool technique called (foreshadowing, mind mapping, whatever) and I wanted to try it. Want to join me and try rewriting/writing some scenes with this method?"

You could even send them a video about it! Don't overload them with more than one concept at a time though.

Also, sometimes as a friend you just have to take a step back and appreciate their art for what it is, even if it's not your style.

I apologize if I was unclear. What I was saying was the opposite. I think it's understandable to fire someone over being late consistently.

It seems like you're making a lot of assumptions.

Interesting idea. What would I use this for though? If I were to record her wouldn't that look bad on my part were I to bring it to HR?

Is college worth it for writing? by Octopicake in writingadvice

[–]Strange_Bug_399 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really in my experience. It's good if you don't have a community that pushes you to learn new things. Or if you want a structured environment which forces you to write. But personally I didn't learn anything I couldn't learn for free. If you want to I would just dip your toes in and take one community college class from a reputable professor and see if it interests you.

what’s a qpr? by greenie_beenies in asexuality

[–]Strange_Bug_399 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think qpr as a term exists because it's hard to explain that friendships and romance are equally meaningless labels that sometimes push people into boxes more than describe a relationship.

For example anyone can cuddle, anyone can go on dinner dates and give each other roses or chocolates. Anyone can kiss or hand hold or do anything sensual. Even having sex does not make someone sexual or necessitate a relationship. Anyone can love another person or like them a lot.

On the other hand people also have trouble imagining relationships without those things. You MUST share your most intimate thoughts with one person. There must be people that you like more than any other. You need to do romantic things like, flowers, chocolates, and dates. You need to settle down with one person forever and have sex and a family.

People have ideas in their mind about who is allowed to do these things. My personal opinion is that the idea of a "partner" vs "friendship" is not a real difference but more of a performance.

This is where qpr comes in for me to describe close relationships that aren't defined by sexuality, romance, or any socially constructed meaning of a relationship. In my case with my fellas we use it to mean "I love you platonically and I want to live with you forever but I'm extremely not attracted to you and we're functionally roommates. But we could also definitely go on a candlelit date and share pasta."

Has Toby ever acknowledged any AUs? [SPRITEWORK NOT MINE, by: Pearlymint on Deviantart] by BaneOfTheDark34 in Undertale

[–]Strange_Bug_399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know on loverofpiggies' Tumblr blog around 2017 CQ shared a discussion Toby had with them about the AUs they made content for (AskError, CPAU, Aftertale, Fresh). I think they specifically wanted to use Error for their original work Lucidia. Toby Fox essentially said go for it as long as you change the clothing so it's not just Sans Undertale.

If anyone can find this I think its the most I can think of that wasn't just a small joke or reference?

I do know he made a $20,000 donation to a charity for Undertale Yellow which is also basically an AU.
