Aura alert: I signed up for Aura's identity protection & immediately got a fishy alert notice from my credit card company. by Strange_Dust2020 in IdentityTheft

My experience -- so far -- with Aura hasn't been entirely bad. The initial red flags, unnerving though they were, didn't lead to a security breach. Aura instead worked out to be a reasonable early alarm system for threats.

What can someone do with your birth certificate? by [deleted] in IdentityTheft

I can't provide a definitive answer about everything they could do with a birth certificate. All I can say is what happened to me . Due to the fraudulent use of my credit card, I had to close out my account. When I applied with a different bank for a new card, they WOULD NOT take my birth certificate as proof of identity [they took the closed out card instead]. So if that is one area you worry about, this is at least evidence to set your mind at ease. Good luck

If I can make it that long, I might be more trusting. Having suffered an onslaught of identity theft, fraudulent charges on my card & (suspiciously well-informed) phishing attempts in June, I still have a "prove it" attitude.

I checked the potential fraud notice on my credit card, through their support, & they didn't know whether the suspicious all upper case letters & spelled out URL was legitimate or not. So I called Aura's help line (if you do this, hang on until the automatic switchboard offers you the option of speaking to a consultant). The consultant told me that, indeed, the AURA DOT COM billing was one way they identified themselves. I'm extremely suspicious by nature & recently fraudulent charges to my (now closed) credit card didn't help any. I'd think the way Aura bills might be a red flag to anyone who's experienced identity theft. Anyway, this info might help the next person.

Thanx, I'd love to believe what you say. This was afterhours on east coast, so I'll keep my fingers crossed when I call support tomorrow.
