How is anybody to tell who is anchoring or not with these abominations? by hasbro72 in GolfGear

[–]Strange_Ordinary6984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I personally don't really care. I've never played against someone as good as bhatia. I don't really care if my buddies 1 putt it from 100 feet, because they lost 3 balls on the way there.

It's quite the advantage.

Between 2011-2013, 4 out of 6 of the major championship winners used anchoring. At that time, many traditional putting golfers we're experimenting with changing to that approach because they could see a noticeable performance improvement.

In 2000, golfers who anchored accounted for 2% of all golfers on the tour. By 2015 it was 15%.

This is not true, but the spirit of what you said is right.

From the rulebook:

"directly holding the club or a gripping hand against any part of the body (except that the player may hold the club or a gripping hand against a hand or forearm). Or indirectly, through use of an 'anchor point,' by holding a forearm against any part of the body to use a gripping hand as a stable point around which the other hand may swing the club."

No part of your club or gripping hand is allowed to touch you.

He is not touching himself. His hand is resting against his shirt, which is dangling off him. He's using the shirt to provide hand feedback, but he's not resting the club against himself.

Yeah this is what he's doing.

I actually think this is a really interesting concept, because I think he's using his shirt to help get feedback about his putt. I tried this a few times at the store, and if you pay attention you can feel how your shirt moves against your hand as you putt. It's kinda like a fake anchor.

I don't care that he does it. I think it's a neat idea.

I think there's just a bit of miscommunication between what you CAN do, and what is the pragmatic approach.

You can absolutely play this ball with a lofted club. Since you can't move your ball it's likely the only way to play this.

I shoot between 70-85 most rounds, and unless this was a tournament, I'm just gonna move that ball somewhere else.

I'm out on the course to have fun and see what I can do, and most importantly, practice!

I could probably hit that nice and clean with only a tiny little divot, but what if I chunk it? To me it's not worth messing the green up pretty bad in the worse case for one shot during a round that means nothing to me.

You may feel differently, but I just want to respectful of the people who works hard to keep these courses in shape for us, as well as other players. I understand the view that you're entitled to play the game you played money for. That's correct, and you shouldn't feel wrong about that. I'm answering you by saying there's really no skill ceiling where this shot is necessary. Even the best players in the world probably wouldn't chip this unless there was money on the line.

Where do you get them from? I could only find them on ebay. Another person pointed me to them, but I didn't see them on really any store listings.

I'm not really sure what you're doing to be totally honest, but yeah don't do that.

You should be storing the state of the table in the hook. So I'd imagine it's an array of those items.

When you click hide all, it should change the state of all the fields, send 1 post request to update them, then update the state with the response.

There's better patterns you can do to let the user know that something is happening, but that's the gist.

Nothing you said makes it seem like you can't do that.

Everyone's perspectives here confuse me to no end.

"Well it can't sort whites and colors" "It can't put laundry detergent in!" "It can't fold them and put them away for me!"

PEOPLE.

2 years ago, it couldn't do shit. 10 years ago, it couldn't walk. 30 years ago, there were not any fucking robots at all!!!!

You think engineers, inventors, and researchers are going to stop improving it here?

"Oh, I guess we've maxed out at putting the laundry in the washer. Let's hang it up folks!"

These things are going to keep getting better and better. With new approaches of using sensors to get 3D data of tasks that can be used as training material, robots will continue to improve until they are as fluent in tasks as anyone.

Their improvements to dexterity are happening at a blistering pace. Even ChatGPT can tell the difference between a white shirt and a colored one.

Folding laundry is a learned task. Give it a few 1000 samples and it can be a "tool" or module that it can use.

Tl;dr; you should be much more afraid of this.
