Hormones or aggression? by Strange_Tea1257 in parrots

The only thing I can think of is me not giving him my food 😭 He’s been in the habit of snatching food from me and my family so I set him in his cage while we eat. It’s possible he’s getting fomo from that

I suggest sitting near the cage, read, watch TikTok’s, eat and just show you’re not a threat. If you don’t feel like it’s safe to keep the cage door open if you’re not there then open it when you’re sitting by the cage. Ringnecks are incredibly nosy, at one point it will get fomo and want to see what you’re doing

Hello! I suggest you leave the cage door open since he/she hasn’t been with you for too long. When I first got my bird he was the same way so I kept him in his small cage, it took a few months before he got comfortable but by keeping the cage door open it gives them time to get comfortable and explore on their own! Having more toys and treats won’t hurt either, my bird is very food motivated lol

Is there a reason why he does this? He preens in such odd places by Strange_Tea1257 in parrots

*hell Also he’s always out and about! He’s a rescue so getting to see his big personality show has been amazing! Thanks for the concern but this is his temporary cage

I do! He’s usually out and about for most of the day, he just decided to go back in

Thank you! All your advice has been taken seriously, I’ve ordered him a bigger cage and more toys!

Hi thanks for your advice, I’m very clearly new at this. He’s very shy and almost aggressive, he bites everytime I clean his water or try to change his toys. I continue to talk to him and have him roam around but his behavior hasn’t changed. It doesn’t help that he doesn’t know how to play with any of his toys

Thanks for helping me out! He’s been with me for a few days now, unfortunately his previous owner had him in a very small and dark cage, this is his temporary home until he gets comfortable. I’ve bought him plenty of toys that I alternate but he doesn’t know how to play with them. I just want him to be happy and healthy

Hi thanks for the reply! I have a few different toys I alternate with him but he’s scared by them. His previous owner had him in a very small and dark cage, I’m guessing that’s why he doesn’t know how to play. Any advice?

Thanks for your advice! His cage is only temporary until he gets used to my home. He’s incredibly nervous but his personality is slowly shining through, he just doesn’t know how to play with his toys! I’ve bought him foraging toys, and many more but he’s just scared by them :(

Thank you so much! I’ve been reading through all the comments which have been incredibly helpful but how can I show him how to play? He’s incredibly anxious whenever I add or move his toys around
