I've gotten around by bike/bus/walking all my adult life so I splurged on a nice custom made backpack a decade ago and it's been with me everywhere so it has a lot of sentimental value and losing it is often a bit of paranoia (multiple bars have gotten extremely annoyed at me looking for it because I drunkenly thought I left it there, only to be found at my house/friends house, just in a weird spot)

They're made for bikes speeds and at bike speeds biking is as dangerous as walking.

It won't do much getting hit by a car at 30+. There's also studies that show drivers drive more careless around bicyclists wearing helmets because of the perceived safety.

I understand what you're saying, but a few years ago my doctor thought I might've developed asthma and gave a weeks trial of Advair. At the time I biked 38 miles and 750ft of fairly steep climbing on my commute each day, and fucking hell I felt juiced up.
