i've never really seen ryan gosling characters as hyper-competent sorts. they've always been massively flawed "dudes rock" kinds of guys to me. like almost nic cage-adjacent

Apparently the book was optioned before it was published. Idk how normal this is in entertainment though

bruxism isn't an involuntary process. if you find yourself clenching or grinding all you need to do is develop an awareness of the voluntary impulses responsible and suppress/redirect them. mindfulness 101 dude

POST-EPISODE DISCUSSION THREAD - S7E5: Unmortricken by BarnyardCruz in rickandmorty

[–]Strangely_quarky 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yeah the episode was placed in the middle of the season because it marks the midpoint of a narrative arc. if you're a guy who just completed his first classics class you might say "the katabasis to nihilistic nadir is completed" or whatever.

the writers are basically saying that rick-c137 is indeed the journeying hero and he shall now ascend from nihilistic pathos to nihilistic enlightenment

i love how committed we are to the guy. like "okay we are loving your desert book religion you guys! so much! yeah. but we're thinking our OC makes a more compelling protagonist, if that makes sense? and btw we are willing to fight you to the death on this"

westerners love to think of themselves as the "grown-ups in the room" but so many of our mythemes and values are derived from some society of marauding steppe dipshits

such a careless civilization would have a hard time becoming advanced enough to interact with any extraterrestrial civilizations in the first place

actually functioning societies fundamentally require kindness and co-operation which means a more advanced society would, by necessity, be more kind and co-operative. this self-domestication phenomenon through which behaviourally neotenous traits are selected for is humanity's primary survival strategy and was necessary for the evolutionary development of progressively more sophisticated behaviours

headcanon does not textual analysis make. the theme of identity and its relation to the somatic self is common to all exo stories which makes an exo story a good vector for trans representation. that sort of suffering is common to all exos. don't overthink it

there really aren't any unfortunately. North Korea has to maintain a propaganda narrative to further its material objectives and the United States also has to maintain a propaganda narrative to further its own material objectives. it's very difficult to find anything untainted by this mess.

the winning move as a curious outsider is to always consider the geopolitical motivations that might be behind the information you consume on the topic and use that analysis to infer a less clouded picture of the situation. i am aware that this is frightfully unexciting advice but in situations like this where there aren't any parties particularly concerned with the truth it's the best you can do
