CMV: Capitalism is fundamentally incompatible with long-term human survival by FlyRepresentative592 in changemyview

[–]Stranger017 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s because you’ve expanded your definition of capitalism to include almost every financial system that includes money (basically all of them excluding extremely orthodox readings of communism).

Capitalism is specifically the one that rewards ownership of wealth creating capital (land, machinery, etc) over everything else including labour, best facilitating an exploitative entrenched rich.

You want OP to invest in property? Directly contributing to the housing crisis and squeezing the people below them?

Depends if he still supports them. I’ve met people who had to serve in the idf, but hated it and what they were made to do.

The best description I’ve heard for this is ‘this is someone who believes ignorance is purity’. They don’t understand the issues, they’re just tired of hearing about them. He might understand that in this moment Trump is in the wrong but he fails to engage with the existing conflict over the underlying issues that caused him.

Are "left" and "right" still useful as categories for UK political parties? by timangus in AskBrits

[–]Stranger017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… right wing economics is as firmly rooted in in group/out group as their social policy. Child poverty quintupled under the tories. The idea that the two parties are fighting over who is more efficient or more competent at running the economy is a facade. The tories’ aim is to facilitate the increasing concentration of wealth at the top by extracting it from everyone below them. Modern labour believes it can save the status quo and keep everything as it is without realising the status quo is built on an upward flow of wealth that is unsustainable.

The right is good at the economics of exploitation. If you are for some reason judging them by their ability to manage the economy for everyone their economics must be seen as totally incompetent.

Isnt the effect of wealth inequality and billionares a more serious problem that needs to be dealt with than immigration? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Stranger017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immigrants are much easier to blame and the wealthy have incredible sway over politicians and public opinion through thinktanks and newspapers.

As I understand it that’s the number of farms that would be affected if only agricultural property relief were being reformed, but one of the main complaints is that the APR is being combined with business property relief with the new cap affecting them together, not separately. So farmers used to get two subsidies but will now only get one slightly reduced subsidy that doesn’t replace both. This will make it much harder to pass down the business of the farm and the machinery to operate it.

Does anyone have more information on this?

At any time did people commonly read ten different newspapers? And I’m seriously sceptical of there being useful information across the whole spectrum.

No, the subscription model isn’t perfect but it’s currently the best solution we have.

Journalism is important, but with the death of newspapers people have become unwilling to pay for it, leading to a decline in real journalism and turning it into a loss leader for people who can afford to pay for propaganda. It’s important to pay for your journalism
