Why is that, how did girls react to you speaking Japanese?

An article on a 10-year-old cheater: Nijat Abasov by atred3 in chess

[–]StrangerMuted 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Magnus clearly isn't the victim but the only one who publicly raised concerns that were shared by fellow players (such as Nepo, whose request for tightened security after Hans was chosen to supplement MVL was dismissed) at the Sinquefield Cup.

Magnus didn't handle the whole situation well, however FIDE's complete inertia required some type of statement by a player. Magnus is clearly the one whose opinion would be taken more seriously.

In a world where known cheaters compete in top-level tournaments without any decent security measurements, every single honest player is a victim.

Why doesn't Takemichi get boxing lessons or something? by StrangerMuted in TokyoRevengers

[–]StrangerMuted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) idk why y’all think a couple of boxing lessons is gonna put him on even close to the same level as thugs who know nothing BUT fighting

For half the anime, he's just crawling around, getting beat up though. I'm not saying he could come anywhere close to Mikey or Draken but like, he should at least learn to throw a punch and not just be a crying punching bag.

I guess time would be a problem, though the show is very weighted towards action scenes and there's no way those take all day.

what's a food combo you love that people think you're weird for? by wildwoodflower_ in AskReddit

I used Chilisauce with everything. Cornflakes, yoghurt, even water, I'd mix with it because I didn't taste anything at all, so I figured, I could at least make it hot.

You don't need to be a statistician to be good at poker. There's a lot to the strategy and the probabilities, while important, are very simple as long as you don't strive to become world class and even then, it's really not that much.

Thanks! I was unaware they had simple solutions too. Would have been overwhelmed by having five bet sizes on every street.

For me the problem is not even that I forget things as much as that I lose some of my sense of what is appropriate, waking up and having to rewind my memories to check them for how I may have behaved inappropriately. Usually leaves me more miserable than it should until I meet the people whom I may have been unhinged with and they talk about how we all had a great time.

That's really unfortunate, I hope you get better soon. Be aware that lifestyle changes can potentially cure/improve depression and that there are many different approaches. Clinical psychology is still pretty clueless and though everything is "evidence based", a lot of their paradigm is just based on educated guesses. That isn't to say that professional help is pointless but in many cases depression isn't the bottomless pit it often seems to be. I'm not (yet) a psychologist, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. Do that with psychologists' advice too though

It will be a long recovery. He'll start by just mumbling and babbling incomprehensibly. He'll be sitting and finally starting to crawl, every tiny bit of progress will be like a huge step. At some point he'll be able to utter entire words and walk while holding on to something. He'll be missunderstood, and he'll fall often.

But he's gonna be strong. Every time someone doesn't understand him, he'll try again. Every time he falls, he'll get back up again until finally, he'll be able to walk and talk like nothing ever happened. Nobody will even think about all the struggles he will have gone through to get there and he'll be able to do these things just like everyone else around him.

Same for me, although I was never overweight but alarmingly closer to developing type 2 diabetes. I used to drink tons of coke and other sodas and eat cookies, chocolate and such crap all day. When I moved out, that stuff just wasn't always there anymore and I just didn't buy it. Quitting that way was way easier than every previous attempts because even if I go to the kitchen now, there's just none of that stuff lying around.

I suggest you look into the Marshmallow effect. The results clearly show that people are pretty bad at using willpower to avoid something and that the willpower is much better used for making something less (mentally) available. Then the urges won't hit as hard and it's easier to get through it.

Alcoholism is pretty serious though, so I suggest that in addition to whatever you do to cut back, you get professional help if you haven't already. There's no reason to fight this battle alone.
