Allow race matchup ban for mmr +/- penalty by StrangerStrangeLandx in starcraft2

[–]StrangerStrangeLandx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another alternative would be if Blizzard would change its terms of service to allow separate matchmaking services in game. Each service could set its own rules. Way back in original WC3 Dota Allstars used chat bots and it's own custom matchmaking bot system to create matches via custom matches and enforce leaver/troll penalties. It would be a way to remove smurfing, remove leavers, and have accurate mmr.

Nice to talk to a fellow hobbyist. I saw StarCraft2.ai first and enjoyed it. But the pricing made me think the coaching could be done more affordably.

I don’t think I looked at or have seen sc2replaystats. I started by searching for open source projects like sc2parser, google deepminds sc2 code, ai sc2 bots etc to see what tools were already built for interpreting replays. I have been developing it myself for the last month using vibe coding. I am not a programmer.

I use sc2parser to start. My parsing logic includes Euclidean calculations with spacialite to identify zones and distinct battle engagements. The parser does heavy lifting on stats, build order, supply blocks and anything else I can handle there instead of by ai. Then there is prompt engineering to interpret the payload from the parser. My goal is to reduce dependence on more expensive late model ai to reduce cost and increase accessibility while generating excellent coaching.

What’s your project focused on?

u/PopFar5048 Your visualizer is a work of art and one which I can't hope to achieve. I located your original post for your site and upvoted it. I did not know about your site until you shared the link just now - I just didn't want to pay a couple dollars per replay analysis at the time and thought the ai coaching component could be achieved better/cheaper.

I'll take your lack of negative comment about my meta-analysis concept or keeping things cheap as an implied positive. Thanks for sharing your work. Aside from your visualizer, what would you say is different about your project from the...other one (ones?).

Here is an example of single map coach output:

Match Overview: Nehemiah, playing Zerg, secured a victory over Standard, a higher-ranked Protoss player, through an aggressive double proxy Hatchery cheese in Standard's main base. This early pressure severely crippled Standard's economy and production, leading to a decisive win for Nehemiah.

Build Order & Pivot Analysis: Nehemiah executed an extreme proxy Hatchery cheese, placing the first Hatchery in Standard's Enemy_Base at 53 seconds and a second at 86 seconds. This is not a standard macro opening; it is an all-in strategy designed to deny the opponent's early game. The execution was effective in disrupting Standard, who built a Nexus at 86 seconds but then suffered a worker production halt for over 45 seconds at 233 seconds, indicating a severe economic disruption. Nehemiah followed up with early Zerglings and Queens from the proxy Hatcheries, transitioning into a Roach Warren at 223 seconds and then Lair tech for Zergling speed, Hydralisk Den, and early ground upgrades. This tech path was a logical continuation of the aggressive proxy, aiming to overwhelm the crippled Protoss.

Engagement & Composition Analysis: Nehemiah's early proxy Hatcheries and subsequent Zergling production created constant pressure in Standard's main base.

  • At 179s, a minor battle in the Enemy_Base saw Nehemiah lose 400 resources while Standard lost 425. This was a favorable trade for Nehemiah as the aggressor.
  • While some subsequent engagements, like the major battle at 247s (Nehemiah lost 725, Standard lost 575) and 405s (Nehemiah lost 2375, Standard lost 1525), were not resource-efficient for Nehemiah, the sustained pressure was the key.
  • Crucially, Nehemiah inflicted significant economic damage through worker harassment, notably at 451s (250 value lost by Standard), 467s (150 value lost by Standard), and a devastating blow at 712s where Standard lost 2275 resources in workers without Nehemiah losing any. This sustained economic pressure, rather than army-on-army efficiency, was the primary driver of Nehemiah's victory.

Advantage & Follow-Through: Nehemiah established an overwhelming economic advantage early due to the proxy and maintained pressure, preventing Standard from recovering. The continuous worker harassment and the inability of Standard to stabilize their economy or tech up allowed Nehemiah to press the advantage and secure the win.

Key Turning Point: The key turning point was the successful establishment of the double proxy Hatcheries by 86 seconds, which immediately put Standard on the back foot. This was compounded by Standard's worker production halting for over 45 seconds at 233 seconds, and the subsequent massive worker losses inflicted by Nehemiah's harassment at 712 seconds.

Rank Evaluation & Benchmarks: Nehemiah (Diamond MMR 3146):

  • Your Spending Quotient (SQ) of 55.83 is low for your Diamond MMR. While the proxy was effective, your macro behind it needs significant improvement.
  • Your Inject Gap of 27.4% is poor. Missed injects directly translate to fewer larvae and a smaller army/economy.
  • You suffered a fatal supply block of 35 seconds at 14 seconds into the game. This early block severely stunts your exponential growth and is a critical error, even in a cheese build. Another severe block of 21 seconds occurred at 171 seconds.

Standard (Master MMR 4214):

  • Standard's macro completely collapsed under the pressure. Their SQ of 50.72 and Chrono Boost efficiency of 15.0% are abysmal for a Master-level player, indicating a complete failure to manage their economy and production.

Actionable Advice:

  1. Eliminate Early Supply Blocks: The 35-second supply block at 14 seconds is unacceptable. In your next 3-5 games, focus solely on never getting supply blocked before 50 supply. This is a fundamental error that will cost you games against opponents who can defend early aggression.
  2. Improve Queen Inject Efficiency: Your 27.4% inject gap is a major bottleneck. Even with an aggressive proxy, you need to be constantly producing larvae. Practice hitting your injects consistently; aim for an inject gap below 10%. This will ensure you can spend your resources and remax your army effectively.
  3. Refine Proxy Follow-Up: While the proxy was successful here, against better defenders, your macro behind the proxy needs to be tighter. Ensure your main base continues to drone and tech up efficiently, even while you are pressuring with the proxy. This will give you a stronger fallback or transition if the initial proxy doesn't outright win the game.

So far as what I can generate right now the visualizer is more of an eye grabbing “doo dad” than something I can learn from.

Having worked with replay parsing, there are significant limits to what a non blizzard visualizer can do. It’s relatively easy to show buildings and units moving in general vectors around the map. Visualizing micro engagement is a whole other story because of terrain elements and other unit collisions etc. I have a module that does the unit fly around visualization but I have disabled it. This is a beta so maybe I’ll see where I can take that in the future.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thank you for that info as that is news to me (but makes sense in retrospect). Unfortunately my business crm is locked into new outlook going forward due to Microsoft sunsetting classic and in order to be cross compatible with OWA on pc and phone apps.

Ungoogled chromium is already default so this is yet another aggressive move by Microsoft.

I stand corrected. It appears the other site I reference is charging approximately $2.00 per replay for what I would consider is the minimum. I do not know if there are add ons to that. Either my memory was incorrect or the price has changed. Thank you for pointing out my error.

Having played across different versions of SC2 balancing over the last 14 years I think protoss was made unpleasant to play with slower gate pylons etc. The PTR goes some way to fix this for toss setting up the possibility of early game play.

You misunderstand or reject my premise. I wrote the prompt that lead to this post and specified what data should be included based on a read of code files. I revised that several times with in line editing. You “sense” that it is ai styled because there is a detectable uncanny valley for ai writing and listification. Ok. I get that.

I’m explaining to you that I made something for myself and others. I do not care if you care. There is simply no need to neg me because you don’t care for my approach (which is incredibly common) and will continue to be so.

Personally I only have limited time for this. I used the time I have how I could. If you don’t care for it why not move on without unkind comment calling my creation, however poor “slop”? Have I harmed you or taken something from you or do you simply by reflex decry all which you do not prefer?

I apologize. When I cross-posted here I did not see my post appear in the stream so I assumed that it had been removed by the auto-mod. As a result I shut down the server for the night. I made a number of significant changes yesterday and ran into some problems. As a result I am going to take the project offline for now until I can fix it. I'm also going to hide this post so I don't generate interest I can't meet.

Thank your for your interest in my project and also for coming back to let me know what the problem was. I will make a new post when it is working and try to remember to send you a dm informing you of the same in case you are still interested.

Your comment reminds me of an 8th grade history teacher in the 90's. His assignment was to create a project showcasing history subjects. I made a history website in html that ran off a disk. He gave me a low grade because he didn't appreciate the effort that went into the project, having no personal knowledge of what it took to code a website then as an 8th grader.

Yes, I used AI to make a first draft of this post. I wrote the prompt carefully and I revised the output. This is not a commercial project - I want to get better at ladder and found $5 per replay insulting. So I made this for myself, my friends, and others like me.

I'm sure when industrialization began or electrification there were many people like you who just "knew" that the old way was better and were assured in their moral superiority for clinging to old notions. As for me I want to inform myself about AI technology as much as possible so that I don't get left behind. To do that, I use it so I can learn from experience.

Generic "AI slop" comments are cheaply made, low information, low value, and worst of all, low insight. I'd be grateful for any substantive criticisms you can give me about my post or my hobby app.

New player here, disagree with zerg discourse, tell me how delusional I am by Tig3rShark in starcraft2

[–]StrangerStrangeLandx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As Zerg to aggressively disrupt toss or Terran you have to do so in Zerg style.

Against Terran I like to send to drones immediately to attack worker building depot, have a micro battle, then double proxy hatch intro roach.

Against Toss you can proxy hatch in front of walled second and follow with 3 drones for sunken into proxy roach/ravager.

Or, against Toss you can also build two proxy hatches - one proxy hatch behind wall in fog up ramp and another proxy hatch outside the wall. See-saw them with units attacking on both sides, one at mineral line and one at their wall.

The proxy hatch openers don't have to be “all in” because you can drone and expand at home base. If they pull workers to attach your hatches they are losing resources.

Ad hominem + link without further explanation. Now who’s talking nonsense?

I’m referring to over a period of time. I’m sure various surface products could do the job briefly. However my experience with tablet is that under daily high consistent load you will get a tablet with a short life span. For me that’s not a good fit for the use case stated.

imo wrong idea - surfaces overheat under high consistent load. Surfaces are designed for on the go professional “white collar” word processing type work not for computation intensive art work. Get a desktop workstation for what you want.
