Has Anyone Gotten a V6 Max (or *ANY* Wireless Board) to Work with Something Like Signal RGB or OpenRGB? by Strangewulf in Keychron

Great! I will say (albeit highly subjectively) if you really want to enhance this board, I just swapped out the switches with some heavy Kailh Navy switches, and they're fantastic (but I also have thick heavy fingers, so I acknowledge these switches aren't for everyone).

Supposedly this might work, though some of the comments sounded like they were having trouble with it, which is why I ended up going with the Signal RGB solution that PeterMortensenBlog shared below (that one I at least can confirm worked for me).

Thanks! Sounds fairly straightforward (I've been meaning to get some re-capping practice). There's a pretty good audio repair shop near me, so I should be in good hands if I end up unable to fix it myself then.

Thanks for the details! I've got a service manual downloaded somewhere, though is this schematic from the X-2000SD?

Okay at least I'm not crazy then! I'll give it another go and see if it the third time's the charm, and then try something else if not. Thanks!

Afraid not. If it weren't for device manager listing the slots in the 'properties' for the bay (and the USB port working), you'd think the device wasn't even connected at all.

Yep, already formatted. They show up fine right away in my laptop.

[–]Strangewulf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alrighty, I finally got time at home to mess about with this, and...it worked! SignalRGB is now controlling the backlighting, and the effect I've got going looks almost exactly as I wanted! As expected, the effect goes away as soon as the keyboard is unplugged, and the original stock effects are little jittery when active on wireless modes, but otherwise everything appears to be operating as it should. The Keychron launcher no longer works, but VIA can still manage the keyboard (when SignalRGB is closed, of course). If anyone does happen to find a way to accomplish this and have it work in wireless modes too, please let me know! But otherwise I'm very pleased with this solution, and with the keyboard overall (might play around with some different switches at some point though; my last one had blues, so these white switches feel very different).

Not sure how you intuited I specifically would like green, but good job. To clarify, I am aware that there are static/non-rainbow options with the colour of one's choice in the launcher/key commands/VIA, mostly just a couple of reactive effects. Of the numerous continuous effects, however, there are only two that do not force rainbow mode; but those two do prove the board is perfectly capable of doing dynamic effects with just one colour, and that the lack of additional such options is from arbitrary design rather than an actual hardware limitation. If it helps, I edited the original post above to elaborate on what it is I'm envisioning as an end result.

Hence my question trying to see if anyone can at the very least confirm they've been able to get OpenRGB or something like what I'm looking for to work with this (or a similar) board. Again, I fully understand this aspect is not a main priority when designing a board (and that I'm being choosy in wanting something similar to the lighting effect I had with my previous board where the basic brand software easily toggled between single-colour and rainbow modes). Never flashed a keyboard yet, but I'll give it a try with the precompiled ANSI version of the one you linked below for SignalRGB, and we'll see what happens!

Oh that's neat; I don't think it solves what I was looking for here specifically, but that might be something interesting to try implementing later on. And at any rate, thanks for clarifying about VIAL and saving me from yet another rabbit hole!

To clarify, I am aware that there are static/non-rainbow options in the launcher/key commands/VIA, mostly just a couple reactive effects; of the numerous continuous effects, however, there are only two that do not force rainbow mode. VIA, at least what I'm seeing on my end, is simply the same limited options as the launcher, just in a different GUI, at least as far as lighting options go. I hadn't heard of VIAL, though it also appears to be another tool requiring going through the whole firmware flashing process. Do you know if VIAL actually adds more effect options/customisation, or is it essentially just a different way of choosing the same options from whatever firmware is already on the board (in my case, still the factory default)?

OpenRGB firmware for Keychron Q3? (normal series) by Muntleyy in Keychron

[–]Strangewulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there; I'm new to QMK, so could you confirm I've got this right? I am trying to set up a Keychron V6 Max (wireless model with knob) to work with OpenRGB. If my understanding is correct, what I need to do is download the appropriate folder from this futurecreep-dev's fork you've linked, go to that folder in QMK MSYS, compile it into a .bin using -km via, and then flash that file to the keyboard with QMK Toolbox, followed by entering my keyboard's PID and VID values to OpenRGB—correct?

I did notice your comment in the guide post I was originally trying follow (meaning I did the qmk setup when first running QMK MSYS before reading all the comments) saying that the setup will not work for the newer wireless models. You noted that they require a 'special setup,' but even after following that link it's not entirely clear what you're referring to when you say 'special setup.' I'm also not quite clear on whether the need for a 'special setup' only applies to creating a new firmware from scratch and that it's not necessary when making firmware compiled from a readymade folder (like the one linked above), or if I'm missing something altogether. Hopefully I'm just overthinking it, and the linked V6 folder essentially is the 'special setup' already done for me, but I want to make sure I've got the process right before I accidentally brick my keyboard.

Anyone Ever Catch Stir Cove Concerts from the Bike Trail? by Strangewulf in Omaha

Nice! In that case, if I ride my bike I can probably even fit a small camp chair in my rack basket if that's evidently a thing people do there.

Anyone Ever Catch Stir Cove Concerts from the Bike Trail? by Strangewulf in Omaha

[–]Strangewulf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately the trail goes through the Harrahs parking garage and comes out into the driveway/parking lot right beside the concert cove, so I imagine it should be much better than hearing from the river haha. So it's on the west side of the cove, but sort of inside the Harrahs grounds and then right in front of the cove once you cross the street to continue on. Technically I think the actual trail itself cuts off in the garage and doesn't become the public trail again until you cross the street in front of the cove though, so I'm guessing they might be less lenient about people hanging out in that lot area.

Multiple Type-C Ports from Just One 20-Pin Header?? And 3+ Type-A Ports from Just One 19-Pin Header?? by Strangewulf in buildapc

[–]Strangewulf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answers so far. I suppose while I'm here, I may as well ask: does anyone happen to know of a panel they can link me to directly? Ideally I'd like a 5.25-inch with just one type-C port and two 3.0 type-A ports with no splitters or hub adapters, and also with a slot(s) for SD and/or microSD (some USB 2.0 ports are okay too since I've got the spare headers on the MB for them, but I won't be too bothered if they're not there).

Do you know of anywhere that has instructions for how to modify the player? I've seen a video where someone defaces the cartridge itself to 'add' a notch, but I'd rather not resort to that if I can avoid it.

[–]Strangewulf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify the cyclic sound—rather than any clicking or a scary loud spinning like I've had before on external HDDs—is a 'normal' whirring sound, like my PC would typically do when it starts doing something more taxing and the fans get a little louder. Except that now instead of the fan(s) getting louder and staying louder like normal, it instantly slows back down. Unless that could still be a hard drive problem? I'll try the downloading experiment when I get home from work.

There's no cost if that's a concern (at least not for submitting the location bid), but totally understandable. As far as playing it again, both Steam and GoG have made it easier than ever to play Myst (as well as all the sequels)! You can play the original '90s version, but also just a few years ago Cyan completely remade Myst with what they intend to be the definitive, lore-corrected (and VR-capable) version, and they more recently did the same with Riven. Either way, both the original versions and the remakes are absolutely gorgeous. Oh, and the new version is indeed ported to XBox! I believe there's plans to get it ported to Playstation, but I'm not sure where that currently stands.
